The SUV Man (also known as the Unknown Protester or Unknown Rebel) is the nickname given to an unidentified individual, presumed to be an American man, who stood in front of a column of police SUVs leaving Times Square in New York City on May 5, 2020.

The NYPD SUV accelerated to ensure it would run him over.

You see the west doesn’t have censorship since you’re allowed to post this. It’ll just get memoryholed. And maybe some men in suits will knock on your door to talk to you about something you posted. Or you might get disappeared or interrogated “to the third degree” or take your own life in the back of a cop car with two shot to the back of your head.

But you’re allowed to post this! As long as it doesn’t end up motivating anyone to do anything.

And yall don’t need to start every interaction by being a massive bawbag and acting like everyone is out get you. The actual language of my question is pretty innocuous (though, perhaps less so given the context of the instance, but still).

If I asked if it was real, I would get answers biased by belief in the events legitimacy. I’m also not going to ask what the origins are as I already know where the image comes from. By very purposely asking such a vague question, I’m openly inviting people answer with the information that they deem important to the context of this image. By asking in this way and in this instance specifically, I have the greatest chance to learn and stumble into some new information. As with all things, there are extremely polarized opinions about American policing methods, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

It reminds me of the BLM protests in 2020, there were too many pictures of cop cars driving into protestors. As to this picture here in particular, I honestly don’t know. But it does look very similar.

Remember when the Hong Kong riots were going at the same time as the BLM protests? The cognitive dissonance was staggering. “Uhhh the Hong Kong guys are brave and fighting back, but that’s different from our uppity hooligans”
