I get that some people really love beanis, but the volume of beanis posts in badposting is really overwhelming for others who just don’t get it or find it funny.

Since there isn’t (to my knowledge) a word-based post blocking feature for individual users, can beanis posting get its own comm so that people don’t have to completely block badposting to stop seeing 50 posts of beans dildos and beans in cup holders and shit?

i don’t like it either but i don’t think the solution is to continually put jokes we don’t like into boxes. typically i just roll my eyes and scroll past. if it isn’t doing any real harm i think that is about what it warrants

The joke itself isn’t the problem, it’s the volume of the posts

The first four or five pages of the feed have been majority beanis spam all day

that’s kinda what the comm is for though. i don’t think putting a smaller trashcan next to the big trashcan is gonna make the trash stink less

Kinda sucks that a couple users can decide it’s their own personal trash can and make it unusable for others though. I’ve said elsewhere I like that there’s a place to try out low-effort bits that may or may not land.

Making badposting unusable for anything other than beanisposting is just going to move those low-effort bits back to other comms, undoing the idea of the containment comm.

i don’t think that will be the case. those comms are still going to enforce their rules and weed out low-quality posts regardless of whether or not the posts in badposting are to everyone’s taste

Wouldn’t your non-beanis bad post just stand out more against the backdrop of beanis? How is this a bad thing from the perspective of someone wanting to try out /c/badposting?

No, because the beanis spam drives people to block the comm when they’d otherwise enjoy badposting. Just look at the number of people in this thread who’ve said they’ve done so

And when /c/beanisposting gets created, a new meme will take over /c/badposting, and when people whine about that meme being spammed too much, /c/stalememeposting1 will get created, and when yet another meme is being spammed too much, /c/stalememeposting2 will get created, leading to another meme being spammed too much and so on. /c/badposting by its very design will always be spammy with a few memes floating to the top. It’s just more noticeable to you right now because the FOTY meme is a meme you don’t find funny.

I also find it funny that people are complaining about beanis spam when Hexbear is being hit with “I’m curious” spam. At least you can just block /c/badposting if you think beanis sucks. Meanwhile, “I’m curious” spam is throughout the site.

Who cares? I don’t understand the hostility to making a separate comm, comms are free. Beanis has been around for months, if not longer, and if another meme gets this stale and played out to the point where there have been multiple struggle sessions about containing it, there’s literally no reason not to make a containment comm.

It’s hilarious how we’re having yet another struggle session about beanis

But yeah I think a lot of problems on this site could be solved by having a filter, but until then a seperate comm seems like a good idea, but let’s name it beanis buddies because of this bit idea

Didn’t expect it to turn into a full blown struggle session tbh and I think I missed the others, but if it’s come up more than once that’s a great sign it should have a separate comm

Sorry I didn’t realize asking beanis posting to have its own comm to contain the spam was literally the same as homophobia, glad I was educated by the beanisposter I oppressed by making this request. I’ll self-crit.

On a serious note, that reaction is a great reason why beanis posting should have its own comm

I’m getting to that point but I honestly like 80% of the non-bean-spam bad posts, and it’s nice to have a low-effort comm to post stupid bits in when I’m not sure if they’re going to land

The culture of posting even more bean spam in response to people asking for bean containment really sucks though

                but this is c/commrequest…

to be serious though i don’t find most of the posts there annoying, no. really i don’t even necessarily find beanis posts annoying; they’re kind of just repetitive filler that i pass over. that said i do think some of you (not you per se) are being pretty ridiculous and hostile towards a fairly benign and polite request

idk i don’t really care about this one much but comparing “can we please put x posting into a containment comm” to literal queer persecution almost made me shoot blood out of my eyes like one of those funny lizards

Okay fine I’ll stop beanis posting for a while (as much as I can, anyway. I’m always beanis posting. It’s why my parents named me this). I’ll do the soviet tank effort post instead.

the real problem is that lemmy is social media brained so it’s a feed instead of communities or forums. If we returned to phpbb like god intended this wouldnt actually be a problem
