I’m autistic, I’ve used autist when I’m being mildly self depreciating, but also when I wasn’t. It really depends on context & intent. If its being said verbally, your tone also matters.
Yeah I’ll call myself an autist and I have no problem with other autistic people calling themselves that but if someone else called me an autist I would punch them in the throat
It’s a slur, and like other slurs it’s okay for the targeted group to apply it to themselves, it’s not okay to refer to others.
