There will still be an amount of censorship on lemmy, it might just be on the opposite opinion of yours, so you won’t notice it. I’m pretty sure we’re slowly turning into an echo chamber as well
Absolutely! Especially communities instances like lemmy.ml. I just got banned for criticizing certain aspects of Communism. No alternate opinions are allowed apparently…
ml is unhinged. Its Tankies advocation for what they think is socialism, but they just end up regurgitating whatever the Kremlin propagates because they forgot Russia stopped being a Socialist country 30 years ago, and is a Capitalist Mafia state now,
That’s a Lemmy feature. Hexbear and ML run how they want, world runs how they want. If you’re pissing someone off some place enough to get banned, it’s probably not the best place for you and best to leave them to their echo chamber. If you go wild, you can stand up your own instance and ban any instances you don’t like.
If someone wants to make a safe-space echo-chamber, they can totally do it.
I know how this works. It’s still a ridiculous echo chamber and I stumbled into a meme community on that instance and didn’t know it and started to discuss Communism. They were very adamant on their stance, despite showing them contradicting evidence. Only then I noticed I was on Lemmy.ml, lol. Shortly after, I was banned.
Tankies suffer from similar delusions as Nazis do. They seem to be smarter however.
Yeah, mods will just ban us if we get reported enough. It doesn’t matter if the reports or accurate or if we’re actually breaking any rules.
They don’t realize it, but that kind of behavior has a long term effect on the health and perception of the community.
I’m looking forward to the sections of the fediverse that don’t abuse their mod power. Right now we don’t really have any since most of the mods are immature.
Ideally everyone should have his account hosted on a small instance managed by people you can trust, ettqer because you know tqem personally or beqause you trust someone who trust them.
Having huge instances which host a significative part of the userbase kinda goes against tho concept of decentralization. But in practice it rarely work that way
The extreme political instances year, like hexbear , mil, grad are as bad as conservatives. Makes you wonder that they were justly banned from reddit as surely as they would if they step out of their instances

I don’t care to argue politics with them, but outside of that subject, a lot of the .ml crowd have useful and helpful responses to other ares.
We all suffer from limited worldview. I’m not sure any of us do a particularly great job of seeing things from others perspectives.

Lemmy is definitely turning into an echo-chamber among the bigger instances.
It’s okay, though. Once enough people get censored, it opens up the opportunity for people to start instances that don’t abuse their mod power.
Still, it keeps people away from Lemmy and makes it tedious to handle those situations
that’s why if you disagree with censorship/moderation policy of an instance, you can move to another one. You can’t do that on reddit.
Yea but those tend to be defederated quickly and not last for long, and each time you switch, you lose all the content you’ve posted and saved :(

That’s fine. “Defederation” will have less meaning as time goes on and there are different sections of the fediverse that support different ideals.
The more people that are afraid of “defederation” and adjust their behavior as a result, the more power it has.
