The Nuclear Doomsday Clock is currently closer to midnight than at any point during the Cold War, the looming threat now is worse by that metric.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doomsday_Clock

India and Pakistan both have nukes, and are currently engaged in ‘kinetic’ conflict.

The Russians have a good deal of nukes, of which a good % probably still actually work, and they have often threatened to use them in the ongoing conflict in/with Ukraine, which of course also involves many, just barely short of ‘directly involved’, nuclear armed NATO members.

Israel has nukes, they routinely and doctrinally threaten to use them against basically everyone (look up the Samson option / doctrine), prompting Iran to attempt to develop their own nukes, which now looks like they’re closer to actually achieving thanks in large part to Trump horrendously mismanaging foreign policy.

North Korea has nukes, and they love to threaten Japan and South Korea with them.

China has nukes, and, as far as I am aware, are less belligerent in terms of specifically threatening to use nukes, they are quite belligerent in their claims of territorial sovereignty over Taiwan.

And now the US has gone full fascist, and we kinda have a good number of nukes as well, and our big, orange clown boy has threatened Canada, Mexico, Greenland, Panama, I forget how many others.

The recently proposed ‘Golden Dome’ is a callback to the SDI, ‘Star Wars’, which was never fully realized back in the 80s in part due to the fact that if this actually worked, it would destabilize the MAD, Mutually Assured Destruction, straregic paradigm… and could actually increase the chances of a nuclear escalation.

Well now I guess we are just commiting to that rhetoric at least.

The Boomers that grew up in the Cold War just convinced themselves they completely 100% won, problem solved, and devoted then their attention to hating the queers, setting up a domestic theocracy, inventing inssne conspiracy theories, getting scammed on Facebook, getting addicted to irrational rage porn media, and denying climate change and thus dooming the world to greater personal and economic precarity which will of course increase inter and intrastate tensions, making military and thus nuclear conflicts more likely.

The oldest millennials are from 1980. About half of them remember the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Millennials are fucking old, you idiots.

You boomer fascists who never lived one day under anarcho-capitalist threat can now reflect upon your regulatory capture.

You made quite an ethno-nationalist fuss to save the world from intercontinental ballistic equity.

Yours makes too much sense. His doesn’t even elucidate his own point because it’s so nonsensical.

I was born in 1985; at what point have I not lived under the threat of nuclear war? Afaik, nukes have existed my entire life and as long as they exist, there is the possibility of their use.

Shit, man, the fucking Death Clock that y’all invented to show how close we are approaching doomsday hit it’s closest time to midnight literally this year.

Since the 50s they were really pushing it hard. While true, it also made for great propaganda. By the mid to late 80s things had cooled down and eventually by the fall of the USSR and having a more western friendly leader in Russia, things were much less scary on all sides. Nobody wanted to live under that scare for decades. So that was nice. But then decades went by and everyone who forgot about how terrible that was, and then Putin came into power, and slowly became more crazy. And now we have Trump II. And suddenly it’s fashionable to be unfriendly to your global neighbors. I’d say it might be even scarier now with nut jobs like Trump and Putin willing to press the button. What does Trump and his Golden Dome suggest he is thinking about? Scary stuff.

It’s hilarious how reactionaries pretend to hate “identity politics” when that’s quite literally all they have.

Keeping the focus on culture war bullshit basically ensures that Republicans don’t have to deliver jack shit for their constituents.

You’re healthcare sucks and you’re on the verge of bankruptcy from all the medical bills? Well we can’t focus on that right now. We have to deal with these trans people who have the audacity to exist.
