The show is a standard “loser with little/no ability finds a way to excel above his peers with some small setbacks along the way”. The animation is well done, story is well written, characters are interesting. It kind of feels like a mashup of One Punch Man, an RPG, and a standard fighting anime.

The fights arent too drawn out, and the show generally has a good pace. I personally love it, I don’t think there is a bad episode. Very much looking forward to the continuation.

I’m not saying it’s a bad anime, in fact I think it’s pretty damn great, it’s just that there are so many others that I think deserve just as much love. But I’m sure that the large influx of watchers has to do with people that are new to this kind of media. Every once in a while there is a show that brings in a bunch of new fans and I’m always happy when it happens. And as long as people get in the door I’m all for it. There’s already a weird kinda stigma about watching anime in the west, which can be amplified even further because of some of the hardcore fanbases. Don’t even get me started on some of the gatekeeping that can take place over pretty much any subject about the genre. I know that there are specific and “best” ways to experience anime, but It’s like, my dude, nobody is going to be interested in anime if you have to explain to them the pros and cons of sub vs dub every single time someone shows an interest in anime. Just let people watch it and enjoy themselves even if it’s different from the way you watch it. If everyone had to read all of the Lord of the Rings books just to watch the movies they’d have been a complete flop compared to the budget.

haven’t seen the anime but the comic was really just another:

watch me a nobody loser, become instantly the coolest fucker in town like I’ve been this way my whole life and my entire life before this is gone forever and has no effect on my mind, personality, or behavior. I may have had anxiety before but now I’ve never experienced anxiety in my life.

I tried to watch it to understand why it’s do popular. Man it’s just so boring shallow “Gary Stu” stuff.
