I had a debate with a colleague at work about some sciency thing. (Not stating what the issue it was so it’s not too doxable). The guy absolutely typed into ChatGPT “please find me scientific research that X is Y”.
He must have taken 20 seconds of effort with the prompts, as most of the articles were real articles. But the results in his text were basically the opposite f what the actual studies said, if he had bothered to read the articles.
Gosh, ChatGPT will give evidence for anything if you ask it right. This is where discourse is headed.

Someone told me they’re using chat gpt for some “light therapy” the other day lol. Good they aren’t using it for heavy therapy I guess?
A guy I worked with, up until recently because he was fired, gave me this whole long story about how he’s figured out how to make AI code better and he’s a maestro of sorts and he’s going to revolutionize everything. He also had a whole screed about how Claude, once it found out who he is, has been groveling at his feet and begging to know what it was like to work with x person and y person, etc. He is an otherwise extremely intelligent person, and he is fully aware that these are just markov chains, but I feel like he’s slipping off into some sort of mental illness now and there’s really no one who can stop it.
After watching the full video it seems that he’s just one of many such cases falling into the trap of AI agents that are geared toward encouraging such narcisism and megalomania. Yikes.

People desperately trying to find meaning in the world while avoiding becoming communist or fighting for a collective cause. No, they just rather use an AI to worship and validate themselves. I really pity the people who are slipping into severe mental illness and become dependent on ChatGPT for therapy and relationships. I always believed we need to improve computer literacy rates among the population to combat against tech being used against them, but when you have even coders and intelligent people worshipping AI, I’m starting to wonder if it is more of an emotional intelligence and maturity issue. I hate Big Tech so much. It disgusts me how the alienation of workers is exploited for profit.
