Some executive thought it was popular enough to make money off of it. That’s it. Movies and shows only get made because some CEO sees the potential profit. Not because someone is passionate about the story.
Money! It is a recognizable IP, after all. However, they did make a Minecraft movie… this might have some sort of substance, at least.
I guess because it tells a story about people. Those kinds of things seem to be popular.
