The cuts come as Trump reels from MAGA anger over sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

Makes sense if your country is being run by child rapists.

I could have sworn that “human trafficking” was the cudgel that conservatives were using to justify their ban on porn.

Or is this a situation where they get rid of the department so that the administration alone can define what human trafficking is?

And it battles illegal immigration. You’d think they want to stop that, too???

Oh wait, that kind of trafficking hurts brown people so it can stay.

The thing here though to note is, they’re not legalizing human trafficking, they’re just massively weakening it so they can’t investigate people making a lot of money on it.

De facto decriminalization. Coming to a trafficker near you (like, really near you - probably in a hotel within 5 minutes of your house)

Tbh, it’s been that way ever since I’ve lived here. Dboyz hook them in, they can’t pay the bills. One told me he was a “bodyguard.” I guess if you look at it a certain way, they guard bodies they “own.” This is a minimum wage, "right to work” state.

And since it is decriminalized, it creates a constituency to make sure it stays decriminalized.

I do find this a bit odd, though. Because there’s no better way to do whatever you want than to piggyback it on a “save the children” narrative. Seems like these departments could have played a key role in their authoritarian overreach strategies.
