I wish I could link you the quintessential video but every single one is just a woman hammering a nail in with the flat side of a screwdriver to hang up a picture. I take no offense to this, I jury rig all my shit. But you have to have seen a few of those, I think, to get the idea.
But why are you partners. Any combination of values that arrives you at “I’m doing a man task because my man takes too long to do them” sucks. Not to go all reddit and suggest to break off every human contact at the slightest inconvenience but why the fuck are you together
It’s just internalized gender roles all the way down.
Maybe I just find it incredible to get this close to it without realizing
Best I can tell, some people just like the gender roles thing, even if they rebel slightly against small portions that affect them personally.
It’s good for everybody to learn how to fix shit. Every time my wife asks me for something I try to teach her how to do it.
There’s certain things she won’t touch (anything really gross for example and I’m fucked) but she’s learned how to wire outlets and do some basic plumbing, operate the snow blower, mow the lawn
I still do most of it but it makes me feel good knowing she can take care of things if needed for any reason
This goes both ways too like I learned how to braid my kids hair or use the sewing machine. It won’t be as good and comes out kind of fucked up but we try not to be completely clueless
Anyway it’s good for the ladies to make videos of them fixing shit and good for the fellas to post parenting content
I agree with your sentiment but have you seen the videos? What you’re saying is a big part of why they all strike me as deeply antifeministic because it’s “Look, I, A WOMAN, have to do a MAN JOB because the man I date is such a lazy slob” in the sense vein that things like “I’m too pretty to work” , “I’m just a girl I should be lounging on a chaise looking pretty tee hee” have gained traction even outside trad circles somewhat.
It’s not at all “everybody should learn how to basic home DIY stuff” - there’s channels from men, women and enbies that do that. The entire premise is the rejection of the idea that an adult person should know how to do this at all if they identify as a woman.
The other day I helped a guy fill his tires with air, poor bloke was fresh off an ACL surgery, his stitches were still in, and his girlfriend was sitting in the car on her phone lmao.
It definitely goes both ways!
I find myself in situations like that and it’s my own fault though, if my partner ever asks if I need help I have to suck my pride up before letting her

Yeah, but in this case it sounds like she’s the shitty partner.
We don’t know anything about this guy other than that he “takes too long” to do a “man’s task”. So what? Maybe he doesn’t even like doing those gendered tasks, which would be perfectly fine but it doesn’t seem like she’s the kind of person who would accept that discussion. I’ve never watched these videos but sounds like this woman makes reactionary slop while attacking her partner’s masculinity for internet points.
People should be breaking up more often though.
