Like, would the CIA fly to my house and whack me for agitating in western leftist circles?
Yes it is safe but still never give up your real name nor any tidbits from your life that could be pieced together to identify you. This is a public forum so any person could get that info. If you’re gonna talk about something personal always try to make up details (i.e. if you have 1 brother, say that you have 3 sisters, etc…).
If anything this is one place where we do not allow AES slander that western leftist love to throw out.
I’ve seen a lot of AES slander on removed, and as so the ‘đu càng’ in Vietnam. The criticism from both sides feels like an automatic response, you know? I don’t even pay much mind to it, it’s often the corrupt actions of some officials that cloud people’s view of the party’s actual work. And don’t even get me started on the infighting between Chinese and Vietnamese netizens on TikTok and Xiaohongshu, gosh, those people are insufferable. 'Oh the leaders in Vietnam did something good? ‘Ah! They did their homework.’

If we are being charitable a lot of criticism by alleged pro-AES western leftists is a projecting of their own movement’s inadequacies/frustration at the pace of „restructuring“ of the global order.
how are relations between china and vietnam these days
Well, I’d say the relationship has been improving gradually for years, and even more since our new General Secretary was appointed. The tariff things gave it another big boost. We’re seeing more state visits and high-level meetings now than ever before. They’ve also become much more open to doing business across many new sectors
Comrade! If possible, could you add this to c/Vietnam ???
News about Vietnam is always welcomed!
How are the disputed island tensions going?
You can read the Vietnam-China Joint Statement here. Statement #10 explicitly commits both sides to ‘persevere in friendly consultation…’ and to ‘take no action that can complicate the situation or extend disputes.’
This is not the first joint statement to address the East Sea issue. The consistency across them shows this isn’t just diplomatic boilerplate; it reveals a shared, strategic priority: to manage and contain the dispute rather than let it define the entire relationship. Economic ties, party-to-party solidarity, and regional stability are simply more important to both sides than escalating a maritime quarrel. The repeated commitment to this framework is evidence of that calculated choice
I don’t think there’s much the CIA could do to you if you’re in a socialist country
Obviously there are millions of communists where I live anyway, maybe I’m being paranoid
People have come in and stalked us, but as long as you have good OPSEC you should be fine. If your position is giving you worry, then I recommend anonymizing yourself as much as possible.
How to have a good OPSEC in here?
Try not to reveal where you’re from, what you do, how old you are, and what organizations you may be a part of. It’s important to determine your risk tolerance and threat model, I’m fine with saying I’m a Statesian but not what state I live in, where I’m going, what I do for work, etc.

It’s also possible to make an account using Tails and a proton mail only for Lemmy, for if you want to be really sure.

fun fact, i didn’t know lemmygrad was an ML instance, i heard about lemmy and wanted to try it. i was looking for instance that doesn’t require email and i found lemmygrad and i signed up. now i am with all the friendly comrades.
Very wholesome outcome!

Aside from the obvious stuff like giving up your real name and location, it is recommended to, when sharing personal stuff, to make up details so it’s harder to identify you from piecing up multipliple tidbits, e.g. when talking about family say you have 2 sisters instead of 1 brother, if you’re talking about a friends wedding say it was your brothers wedding, etc…
Just don’t visit the US (or the UK, but that’s just because the UK fucking sucks) and you’ll be fine.
Just practice good security culture and you’re probably fine.
I, for one, welcome any AES comrades that wanna join us.
for agitating in western leftist circles?
I would not advise both doing this and visiting the US, especially in its current state and especially if you are “non-white” in appearance. But being in your own AES country as a permanent resident there, saying some stuff on the western internet, I don’t think they have that kind of power, nor would want to try unless you were a well-known public figure whose death they could leverage toward something more, or like an expert in some subject matter whose knowledge was pivotal to the geopolitical landscape (like them going after nuclear scientists in Iran, IIRC). Their agenda is usually on the scale of couping entire countries and then using the new regime to crack down on communists. They have no jurisdiction over a country that guards its sovereignty well and is well familiar with the dangers they pose.
If you were very obvious with revolutionary rhetoric directed toward westerners, urging them to take action, while also framing yourself as being from an AES state in the process, it might help them with the “foreign commies are trying to corrupt us” propaganda. But they do that anyway, even when there is no such thing really happening or its irrelevant next to the country’s already existing tendencies (like the “Russian troll farm” and “China/Russia/Iran/whatever other bogeyman trying to interfere in our ‘democratic’ elections” stuff).
I think the risk for you is neglible, especially if you are not going to visit the Great Satan. But I’m literally just some dude so don’t consider this expert advice.
Either way, your contribution here would be very welcome. I hope seeing you around more.
