    Did they cut the grille bars to save weight, or to just make it look like teeth? Of all the things, I would probably keep the grille to protect the radiator from damage, since if it leaks, there ain’t no water in the desert to refill it.

        I can’t recall where I read it (perhaps in a post on that other site), but supposedly it was indeed done to increase air flow to the radiator.

    My great grandad was in North Africa in the 1940s. Part of the Royal Engineers.
