Other religions are on different shelves.
I went to a notoriously conservative university - one of the most conservative in the country. A lot of my family members had gone there, too. I got the same major as my mom.
She blames the school for turning me into a socialist.
In actuality, of course, I just: learned how to think better, read lots of books, and was surrounded by shitty conservative people for 4 years.
Many such cases. Ultimately, universities are places designed to expose people to ideas - some good, some bad.
Modern universities are places designed to turn tuition and government grants into real estate purchases to use as rental properties
Well… yeah fair. They still do expose people to ideas though, if only as a side effect of generating tuition
I love how the far right calls the western universities indoctrination centers for all the incorrect reasons. The tenured Professors are all right wing bigots!
There are also shitty radlibs too, sometimes.
It’s so funny too.
“The ruling class is using knowledge to rebel against itself in a conspiracy to get us to question them and vote away their own wealth! I’ll save those elites from themselves! Nothing is true unless my side says so!”
This is why conservatism always has to create a boogeyman “usurper elite” that have clandestinely taken the reins of power from proper elite, the ones they see as having the moral right to rule. Thus commie professors aren’t rebelling against themselves, rather they’re teaching kids to be socialists in order to destroy the “good” elites.
Never ask a CHUD why the white poverty rate today is only a fourth of what it was in the “good ol’ days” of the 1950s.
I’m also not kidding about the books being about how the west is being undermined by islam, since the title of one of these books literally translates as “This is how islamists are undermining western society”.
Alright, but maybe it’s “This is how Islamists are undermining western society (complimentary)” and you’ve discovered the fabled Islamogauchisme that I’ve heard so much about
I often think of my first year poli sci class at a major university which discussed justice and reconcilliation after a dictatorship or genocide, and how you can only choose one so you should choose reconcilliation because too many people will have to face justice to actually have the end result be a ‘peaceful’ society
Did this professor design operation paperclip
I’ve mentioned this before but I majored in art and went to a school in a town with more gay bars than churches. One of my painting professors got in trouble for bad mouthing Bush. We all looked around at each other like “Who the fuck majors in painting at this school and is also a snitch? And why even is our professor getting in trouble? Bush is an asshole war criminal.”
My college had regular visits from fundamentalist evangelicals who’d have signs condemning us all to hell and they’d harass students. One of them yelled at my friend, saying she’s in a wheelchair because God is punishing her for being a lesbian (she’s not a lesbian). They would also scream slurs at passing professors. One time they had a sign about how all music is satanic. The dean approached them (he was a former music professor) and tried showing them sheet music of Mozart or something. Then he said some stuff like “we’ll agree to disagree” and walked away.
One time a student got absolutely pissed off at them, stole their sign and threw it in the river. Thst student got arrested and academic suspension for a year.
One time they had a sign about how all music is satanic
Pentacostals? I always forget which weird sect believes this.
My university banned the Muslim student union for being mean to the Israeli ambassador. Then allowed the guy who burned Korans for attention to come on campus. We’re so commie the cops outnumbered the protesters
Escaping bourgeois cultural hegemony requires effort, if communists controlled education western organizing would be far more advanced.
Gabriel Rickhill’s new book absolutely dunks on this concept.
I encourage everyone to also listen to his interview with Rev Left Radio, as well as on The Red Nation Podcast.
Didn’t know he’s been in Red Nation as well, but the Rev Left interview was super interesting. Really looking forward to reading this one
They each focus on different topics as they chat so I would say one really complements the other. Also, great primers for the book itself.
Give it some time and the booksabout confusianism will be about how Chinese Confusianism is undermining the West

Chinese Confusionism
I’ve been sitting here trying to think of what conservatives would even complain about with Confucianism and the only thing I can think of is “Confucius says you should lie to the cops to protect your family, so he clearly supports the Triad!” They’d probably be more upset about Daoism (“feminizing”) and members of the Hundred Schools like Mohism (“basically communism”) or Agriculturalism (“basically communism”) or Legalism (“basically communism”).
Universities used to be much more right-wing, like how Ivy League secret societies used to be all white and hereditary, but now don’t accept any conservatives. I think it’s in part because conservatives don’t want to go to college, for fear of indoctrination and woke. The more conservatives refuse college, the more woke college becomes, and the more conservatives refuse college.
Colleges don’t want to accept conservatives because they don’t want hate crimes occurring on campus. They want students from abroad and that’s hard to get if any significant amount of your students want to liquidate all foreigners.
