So this is the end game for US democracy!

Will the democracy loving rednecks pick up their 2A guns and liberate us all, or will they join the oppressors and become brown shirts instead?

    I know where I’d put my money…

The Constitution is very clear on this. Elections are controlled by the States…not the Federal government.

The constitution is dead, guy. Look at what’s happening in our streets. There are no rights for anyone if any one of us is denied a right by the PedoNazis.

That’s not true, at all. Almost everything Trump has been trying to do, gets blocked in court. And since nothing he’s trying to do, is actually working…he sends ICE out to try and bully states into doing what he wants, voluntarily.

But, as long as people stand their ground, and refuse to capitulate…he inevitably loses. This entire year has been one long series of failed attempts to break the Constitution. But so far, all he’s managed to accomplish is to show us where the weak points are. The rest has actually been holding.

The problem is the media isn’t adequately covering all the legal battles that are stopping him. They simply don’t have the attention span to revisit every case, as it comes up in court. So, people hear about the initial attack, but never hear how it eventually gets defeated.

Alex Pretti was denied his first and Second amendment rights. No court can correct that.

I do appreciate that you’re trying to stay positive.

Don’t get me wrong…I’m not saying the situation is good. It’s far from even being “acceptable”. But, from a legal standpoint, they also aren’t just “getting away with it” either…at least not in the long run. I have no doubt the officers involved in Pretti’s death will eventually be held accountable. And I’m positive that the Trump administration stooges in charge will also face criminal charges as soon as Trump is out of office.

Trump himself might be able to claim some degree of protection from certain charges, due to presidential immunity…but the people who work for him, don’t have the same options. And while many of the people in his previous administration managed to sneak out under the radar, without too much damage…this time it isn’t going to be so easy. They’re all doubling down on their crimes, which is making what was “legally grey”, now fully “in-the-red”. The legal violations are so blatantly obvious, that it would be a crime not to prosecute them all.

We can’t keep pretending America is what we imagined it. If after all the examples they’ve given, you think these people are leaving office, brother, wake up.

they’re called “amendments” because with enough “might” a bigot will change the document. consider it irrelevant and void.

This! I cant believe you folks still imagine there will be midterms. Between the Goergia case, legalised gerrymandering, and these prognostications, it’s obvious what he wants. Everything hes done so far he told you he was going to do. Then you all collectively put your head in the sand and switched on netflix.

Elections aren’t just a national affair. There’s a hotly contested primary between Ken Paxton and John Cornyn this year. We don’t have a mechanism to decide who wins without a vote.

36 different gubernatorial elections. Thousands of state seats. Tens of thousands of municipal offices.

It’s not the sort of thing you can just turn off

I hear ICE is ramping up efforts in Texas now… going into Austin. Let’s see how long it lasts once a few blonde bombshell Texas housewives get pushed around by the ICE assholes.

What they do is only gonna last as long as Trump.

When the GOP starts to see more districts flip in the local elections, they’re gonna turn on Trump almst immediately.

Oh, it does indeed. Which is why everything Trump has been doing lately, is looking more and more likely to turn into a criminal conspiracy case against the Trump administration.

They aren’t even trying to hide the fact that what they are doing is illegal…which is why it isn’t going to work.

But really, what could actually be done when the regime goes “so what are you gonna do about it” to a court decision? They have no actual enforcement power. That makes it effectively dead.

They risk a civil war breaking out inside the military, if they decide to cross the line into blatantly disregarding the Constitution. The instant Trump tries to give them an obviously illegal order, you will see how many of those generals take their oath to the Constitution seriously. And I would be very surprised if there’s more than a handful that would actually be willing to follow Trump down that road.

They haven’t actually gotten rid of very many generals. They got rid of a lot of lawyers, hoping that without legal council, the generals would simply follow orders…but once you reach the rank of general, asking advice from legal council is usually just a formality. They already know whether an order is legal or not.

That’s why I said there would be a civil war inside the military. If Trump actually gave them the order to engage the US public, the entire chain of command would collapse. There would be enough officers unwilling to follow that order, that the order itself would never reach the bottom. And if any rank and file soldier decided to follow that order, without it coming from their direct commanding officer, they would be up for court-martial.

Hammering on the Epstein files is a way to peel away support for Trump among authoritarian followers who otherwise don’t give a shit about all the fascism. Neither issue is a “distraction” for the other; they’re important to different people.

I mean the fact of the states administering their own elections is kind of the whole thing in the Constitution. Things like this are why it’s called the United States of America. It’s weird and just like 50 little countries in some ways.

RCV is starting to get popular and I have hope that it’ll begin to unfuck things a bit, but also some Republican-controlled states have preemptively outlawed it because they know they would never wield power again if the citizens actually had a choice.

Also the federal government absolutely should not have singular control. Especially this one shouldn’t have centralized power of elections, and it’s been reshaped so fundamentally, probably it’ll still have pockets of MAGA cancer for at least a decade. They’re rigging it and not even trying to hide it.
