Back to the Future was released closer to World War 2 than today.

If it was released today Marty would go back to 1996.

And wouldn’t have much reason to want to go back to the future.

this one was more fun in 2015, when he’d go back to the 80s

We now are closer to the year 2050 than 2000.

Dazed and Confused was a movie in the 90s about teenage life in the 70s.

If they made that movie today, it would take place around 2007.

There’s not enough cultural change or advancements in technology to see 2007 as a distinct era to reflect on. As we keep going forward, our “blasts from the past” will be from longer ago.

Like, you could get away with the 90s now, but even Stranger Things had to go back to the early 80s.

I don’t know how anyone can say nothing has changed in 20 years. A lot has changed.

Well, it’s a good thing no one said that then.

I see the 2000s as a distinct era! No fucking smartphones, no enshittification (yet), no fucking smartphones (yet) and still enough technology to live comfortably.

If I get tasked to build The Matrix, I would choose the 2000s, not the 90ies.

Have I mentioned no fucking smartphones?

But to be fair the iPhone was announced at the end of the 2000s, can’t remember the exact year.

Are you forgetting NFTs and mRNA vaccines? There’s a plot somewhere in there.

Welcome to General Memes

Memes for the masses, chuckles for the chosen.

Rule 1: Be Civil, Not Cruel

We’re here for laughs, not fights.

  • No harassment, dogpiling, or brigading
  • No bigotry (transphobia, racism, sexism, etc.)
  • Keep it light — argue in the comments, not with insults
Rule 2: No Forbidden Formats

Not every image deserves immortality on the memmlefield. That means:

  • No spam or scams
  • No porn or sexually explicit content
  • No illegal content (seriously, don’t ruin the fun)
  • NSFW memes must be properly tagged

If you see a post that breaks the rules, report it so the mods can take care of it.

Otherwise consider this your call to duty. Get posting or laughing. Up to you
