I’m actually impressed with the way they tied everything back together at the end. I can’t say I was surprised that Steph turns out to be working with the Enclave, the deathclaw pack battle was pretty sweet as was the surprise capabilities of the NCR power armor and Thaddeus using his toes to stabilize the rifle. I know it was pure fan service but I love the NCR payoff at the end and while you could criticize it for essentially just setting up the same old faction conflict as all the games do it works. I am curious about what Hank’s final plan is and was caught out by the fact it seems he has his own agenda separate from all the classic factions. I also thought it was a hilarious bit with Culkin’s Legatus character claiming the title of Caesar and vowing to create a new “palace” to be the seat of the legion’s power in New Vegas and declaring the intent to build “Caesars Palace” that shit cracked me up. What did yall think of the end of this season? What do you think Hank’s programming is for? Also notably absent from both seasons is any whiff of the Institute, I wonder where they might figure into all this eventually?

And then there of course is that post credits scene.

A new Liberty Prime of course is the logical escalation for season 3

Absolutely outstanding show 10/10. My only complaint was that the episodes were too short to really do all the sub-plots justice.

They did the games justice and the writers clearly did their homework, even with the little details.

I gotta say the scene in Sonny’s Sundries was fuckin hysterical I was crying laughing.

Lol yeah that scene was great. The whole show had me constantly like leo-point

I can see how someone who hasn’t played the game having more to criticize and I agree the seasons could have been longer but that’s about it.

  • Nolan seems to be working his way back into his Westworld plots. Instead of spending seasons on the mystery of who is a robot and who is real, they’re going to do the same with mind control. Pretty boring choice imo when you have the entire world of Fallout. Mind control chips seem like small potatoes.

Not on board with showing the NCR as this force of almost pure good. The game would show you something like that Shady Sands utopia and then the dark side of it. If this was a game you would find out that the NCR used the mind control chips to punish people which is why things are so good. That would be a side quest too. The show feels like the Bethesdization of New Vegas were the iconography of the NCR is more important. On that note, I did stand up and clap when the ranger sniper showed up.

I don’t think we have seen enough of the NCR yet to make that judgements but otherwise I agree with this take. But also re: the westworld point i disagree because that trope is already there in universe with the synths and the Institute.

      • I wasn’t arguing that the trope didn’t exist in Fallout, I’m arguing that it’s Jon Nolan falling back on his older material and that it’s lazy. If synths exist, then you don’t need to create a different version of that. Because now you have what is essentially the same mystery duplicated.

I also have a major problem with synths existing in Fallout but I will spare you those thoughts. We might as well just demolish the rest of canon and establish time travel too. Fallout can be every other sci-fi franchise story retold in vault suits and iconography from the older games.

I like watching the show, but it is sure baffling the choices.

Wow the Enclave are the next big bads? After Fallout 2 and 3? How original. I liked how New Vegas and the anniversary DLC for Fallout 4 basically made the Enclave a spent force.

Vegas is back to being contested by the NCR and Caesar’s legion? With House possibly there playing both sides? So we reset to the start of Fallout New Vegas

The thing is they’re resetting thing by killing everything that looks like civilisation and then not allowing any progress, but to bring them back to the point where they were at they have to remove what the factions are.

Yeah I think they have been going for a soft reboot while at the same time setting up this new exploration of the yet mostly unexplored Colorado. All we know about Colorado is what was in Tactics and some expository lore dumps about the presidential bunker and that that was where the cyberdogs were created. The Hangdogs and the legion are likely focal points for the next season along with the Enclave. I expect there to be a B plot with the NCR and Brotherhood following in persuit of the diode which I think the Ghoul reposessed given when Maximus and Lucy find the terminal powered down again after the Ghoul leaves.

I was unsatisfied. Too much going on for 8 episodes, and the finale was mostly setup for the next season so the cliffhanger ending left a lot to be desired.

That said I enjoyed the slop well enough, and hate to have to wait for s3

AFAIK no, the deathclaws seem to have destroyed all the securitrons so it sort of conveniently leaves it open ended. House’s terminal is still functional but it is implied the Enclave got the last laugh after FO:NV and unleashed the deathclaws on the strip. That’s why I am rather excited to see what they do with Colorado given it’s a location that really never figures into the game outside a few mentions and the semi-canon Fallout Tactics.

I wonder if they will mine Fallout Tactics for some stuff? I’m a Fallout Tactics defender, I love that game (as a Jagged Alliance like squad combat game, not an RPG). The Midwest Brotherhood is the most interesting version of the BoS. Basically contradictions being resolved through practice and going from inflexible fascists to a diverse coalition of humans, semi-humans and non-humans.

In a perfect world there would have been an Obsidan game about the NCR and the Midwest BoS (with a new better name) fighting a proxy war over a region. Two new superpowerrs flexing over the wasteland.

Cool! I haven’t seen season 2 at all yet, so I don’t know how much it borrowed from New Vegas at all. Sounds like not even Benny is in it. I’m actually cool with them changing a bunch because like, it would be boring if they just repeated what was in the game.

As long as they don’t do something dumb like make Mr. House the good guy, I’m happy.

Definitely not lol. Also it takes place in 2296 so 15 years after New Vegas. Also if they put Benny in it would be pretty fucked up because Matthew Perry who is the only acceptable casting choice for him (did the original VA for the character) is dead.

As for how much is changed, well a lot can happen in 15 years and in the show that includes a few major events that sort of nullify any possible canon New Vegas ending. Caesar is dead, the Brotherhood is still fractured (or split again as fascists often do) and if anything it seems like as I said the Enclave sort of came in and wiped out whatever faction took over the strip. House is possibly still alive but even that is still up in the air as his life support pod is never actually shown. The only postwar House you get is at the terminal where you meet him for the first time in New Vegas. I think they did a good job walking the multi-ending tightrope of New Vegas. Most notably absent is the Institute which again doesn’t mean a whole lot since Fallout 4 happens on the other side of the continent.

I imagine they might get teased or be in the background of season 3 and become the major reveal for ending of S3 and story of S4. I know a 3rd season is already planned and I assume it could run a couple more seasons past that without running out of material to draw from if not more. I doubt we will see anything like Big MT in S3 since the show is seemingly setting its sites on Colorado for the next season and BIG MT is supposedly somewhere around southern Nevada/New Mexico (interestingly its speculated that it is in roughly the same geographical location of Black Mesa in the HL series). As for what is known to be in Colorado are both the Legion and the Presidential vault which will likely make an appearance given that they are setting the stage for the re-emergence of the Enclave.

The implication was that he was an uploaded consciousness. He says his physical body was too much of a target and they made a joke it had been shot, bludgeon and stabbed (kind of covering all the ways you could kill him in the game).

Yeah I agree that is a possibility. It could also just mean he retreated from the public into his pod/personal vault. It’s still left a bit ambiguous.

Yeah definitely it’s a world with incredible science/medicine, cloning, synthetic bodies, VR, all sorts of things that they could use to say he’s still physically alive and bring him back.

The House of the show has very little to do with the House of the games. They took the aspects of liking control and things to be just so and ran with that, but don’t really touch on his genuine fondness for Vegas, Americana and just quirky shit. But where that comes into play vis-a-vis heroism is that…
Okay so I don’t want to spoil anything, but the House of the show does some heinous shit, but he’s also shown actively fighting the greater evil… and like he does stuff. Like he leaves his office a lot.

I liked it. I was worried it would feel like they didnt get to wrap it up properly. But as you said I think they managed it quite well despite it being only 8 Episodes long.

Happy for the NCR fanservice. The show does really feel like part of something greater so thank God season 3 has already been confirmed. This is a show in which I really enjoy the entire maincast.

yeah I could see this going on for several more seasons since there is so much material to draw from. Colorado is teased at the end and that is where the cyberdog research took place and also iirc the original capital of the Legion. Also outside of lore mentions and in game references not much else is fleshed out about Colorado which leaves a lot more creative wiggle room for writing more unique and original stories.
