    I own the second installment and just…wow. work of art. Definitely pick this up if you like Skyrim type format. There are always new places to explore and side quests to find. The sword combat is super realistic and brutal. Quite the learning curve and not a ‘smash everything’ type game.

    I appreciate that in this you aren’t the chosen one or a generational prodigy or whatever. You’re a doofus son of a blacksmith with all the skills and abilities (basically none) that entails.

      It took me a second or third run to realize that sword practice is essential. If you don’t grind early in the game for a couple hours, every encounter with two armed peasants in some forest will be your death. I don’t think any other game has got my heart racing as much as KCD. I love it.

        I lost about 6-8 hours of gameplay because the game didn’t make it apparent that you must get sword skills. Not because I couldn’t beat (or run away) from a few peasants, who for some reason turn into Barristan Selmy towards the second half of the game, but because the game forces you into a boss fight that is next to impossible unless you have sword skills. I went from 40+ tries without any combat skills (with the best result having the boss down to half health) to doing it first try with sword skills. The mandatory combat is actually one my biggest criticism of KCD.

          The one in the burnt down village when you invade, beat the Cumans and then have that sword duel? Yeah, I remember that the game lets you get away with lacking fighting skills until you run into that dead end.
