i legit thought it would be about the inhabitants of Hirta
the history section of that article is wild. druid stones potentially being actively used in 1800, ancient courtship rituals, their internal “parliament” system and general disconnect from even the other outer Hebrides, let alone the mainland.
even the lack of consensus of the name origin… death?, stag? truly a remote place in europe with limited exposure to christianity where people lived continuously since ancient times.
