That didn’t start with social credit score. When I first learned about their Great Firewall, I learned that their justification for it was roughly that nation states are sovereign and need to have sovereignty over which websites are allowed to operate in their country and what rules they have to comply with.
At the time we in the west mostly said, if that is your attitude, then you’re an authoritarian state that doesn’t respect human rights, especially to free speech.
Now it is the attitude of many western politicians too.
