Conflating the two is then called racist cause ‘you’re comparing black people to animals!’ when the comparison is how people with power owe them treated them, cause in that case, it’s apt. Slave owners treated black people like animals, so we should treat animals better than slave owners treated slaves. Vegans arent trying to reinstate slavery so those against it reallt just want to limit slavery to non humans (at best) instead of full abolition. They sound pretty confederate to me

he really did a soft sell but i think it sold the rugpull. i think there is a danger in ‘leaving’ political prescriptions on the table when talking climate (because international monopolists do have a plan) but normal people’s reactions usually aren’t “we need to murder billions of people”. knowing youtube treatlerites it’d take a shockingly small heap to get them onto that side tho

The whinging about “meeting people where they’re at” is so obnoxious. That can be useful on a tactical level. It’s not something you’re owed. If you want to say “you might be more successful if you drop the insults”, fine. But it’s not a right you have to be handled with kid gloves, if you’re insulted by being told the truth you’re still the problem.

meeting people where they’re at is an obligation of a serious political programme, and it will fail if that isn’t practiced (but always to push them forward! not linger there!)

problem is this fucking youtuber is just making a video? owning some dorks in the replies? is atun-shei the general secretary of the bayou people’s republic and i haven’t heard of it? the heap of ignominious shadow-boxing “consumer leftists” will engage in to defend themselves from the mildest critique of their lifestyle is crazy

Reminder that hexbear pissed itself when vegans said similar things, even tokenizing entire ethnic groups and people with disabilities in order to deflect from critically thinking about their completely voluntary nuggies habit.

I posted a comment saying that I thought it wasn’t likely to happen, and also that he was biased.

I thought my post was pretty light, all things considered. His response was angry carried personal insults. If he said that on this sub, it would probably violate rule 1.

Calling him biased isn’t a personal insult, but him making a substantiated rebuttal followed by a snarky comment is.

And that it wouldn’t be allowed on a subreddit that he most likely has nothing to do with as if that means anything. Also he may be mad that the commenter entirely missed the fucking point. The whole thread is full of climate change denial because the idea that even one treat may be lost is simply too much for the western alpha Chad. I’ll take the treats cause otherwise they just go in the trash and not to someone who should have em more than me, but I dont want the treats, I want the world to be good and am happy to sacrifice all my treats for that. Not eating dead animals is an easy and totally doable step. People who cant even change their diets a bit arent ready for what’s gonna be forced on them anyway. Im happy for an end of an era where 10% of the world takes so much more than they need at the expense of the rest as well as the ecosystem, an end to the richest of that 10% having godlike power and an end to the dominant means of survival is taking the clothes off someone else’s back because I live in absolute fucking decadence despite my best efforts and would happily lose any of it so someone who is without can have a better chance. These fuckers need to humble themselves

I haven’t seen his latest but I like Atun Shei, who I’ve learned from skimming that thread is named Andy. A couple weeks ago I watched his hour long follow up video to his first video on Ravenous, and he talks a lot about how cannibalism in the film is a stand in for carnism, colonialism, sexism, etc.

I eat omni and have eaten lacto-veg or vegan at various times in the past, and one thing I really appreciate about his presentation is that it was presented very matter of factly in a way that stuck with me and sort of comes back when I’m making a nice whey protein shake at night or cooking up some delicious scrambled eggs - that this animal protein still indirectly requires industrial scale animal suffering and environmental damage.

I’d say there was a decent minority of comments in that thread saying essentially you aren’t owed civility, and seemed like a majority agreeing with the substance of Andy’s argument.

He’s a good history YouTube guy, here’s the video, check out his other stuff tho, its really good. His Checkmate, Lincolnites series which is named ironically is a thorough takedown of southern myths about the civil war, his In Defense of the Puritans video brings in their origins with progressive social movements in Britain before moving across the sea but factions still having aspects we would see as progressive in their way, he has a video about a vegan Quaker abolitionist, a sick couple of videos abiut John Brown and a real ass movie called The Sudbury Devil. Its a great channel. He is also vegan, more left than he fully lets on but its beem getting more obvious and this one he lets it on pretty hard at the end. Some dork replied and got owned and then went to cry on reddit. I was kinda surprised hiw lib his subreddit was
