Who fucking cares? I’ve never been to a Presidential Library, and have never even considered it. If I was on vacation, and someone said, “Hey, there’s a presidential library here, wanna go?” I wouldn’t even ask which president, I’d just say No. There isn’t one president for whom I’d trade an afternoon on the beach or in a good art museum, to see propaganda about him, I don’t care who he is.
They’re basically a grift
No it’s not, it’s just a museum dedicated to their administration, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I just don’t give a shit. In my entire life, the best any president could do was approach mediocrity, but they couldn’t even manage that. They’ve all sucked. I could tell you which were the worst, but nobody is the best. You have to go back to Eisenhower to find a decent president who actually respected the true job of the president.
In this case the “Obama Presidential Center” also includes a public library, arts center, sports facilities and a few other things as well as park landscaping around it. It was to make it feel less like a waste of money but with cost overruns out of control it was no use. There’s also worries of gentrification in the South Side, which the Obama Foundation declined to take measures against.
I grew up in a city with one, and the only time I went was for a private event held in the conference-center.
