I lost whatever (little) respect I had for an oscar award when I learned the voters aren’t even required to watch the films they’re voting on.
Eh? They have to watch the movies. They can only vote in a category they’ve watched all movies in. It’s an honor system though so I assume some lie about what they’ve watched.
This is newer, not sure if it changed over the last year or earlier. Previously it was even more honor system “vote in the categories you feel qualified in”.
I lost all respect when they still gave Will Smith a standing ovation.
I didn’t have much respect for them in the first place, but that sealed the deal.
They just saw that guy get out of his chair and physically assault the host. And they thought that deserved applause. Insane.
I only watched because Conan was hosting, but otherwise most people already know who is going to win
Good
The reason is that the movies nominated for best picture weren’t popular. Avatar: Fire and Ash, Jurassic World: Rebirth, and F1: The Movie weren’t nominated. Last year, two popular movies were nominated, Dune: Part 2 and Wicked.
