There’s no way it’s a coincidence that that guy looks like fucking Bill Gates.
“Oh, shit! You’re WAY shorter than I expected” -actual conversation with another remote coworker when we met in person
My remote coworkers are never the height I expect them to be.
I’m glad it’s not just me! Somehow video calls make everyone the same height, but I’m taller than average so inevitably I will get a shock at how short people are when we meet in person.
I nearly said that to a Veep for us. Allllmooost a foot-in-mouth moment that I’m so good at. Teams meetings has taught me that all sense of scale relating to people is completely out the window.
The amount of brutally obvious “beauty app” filters people put on teams pictures and whatnot…it’s the 2020 version of Glamour Shots in the US. Like dude/dudette/whatever, you look SO much better no matter what you think without digital fucking plumped lips or exaggerated fake chin lines and only-exists-in-1st-gen-terminators-smooth skin.
Love yourself people.
I may have used such a feature myself, but that was more to mask my stubble from a week without shaving.
I was one of very few working from home at my job long before the pandemic, while most stayed at the office. The company kept expanding at the time. My memory for faces is poor, and not much can be glimpsed from minuscule userpics anyway, while mine was rather recognizable. This led to repeated situations of me coming to the office and getting cheerful greetings of “Hey Pus!” from people of whose identity I had no idea.
the fun is when they are in a group huddle chat and haven’t recognised you…
