Spain’s renewables build-out has structurally decoupled its electricity prices from gas markets.
Gas now sets the price in only 15% of hours, compared to 90% in Italy.
Countries that invested early in clean power are far less exposed to fossil fuel price shocks.
This is a pretty quick flip around from Western media previously laughing at Spain for having a power outage that they blamed on renewables. Let’s see who is laughing now.
The important thing is that your power grid is building toward the future, not being stuck in the past.
The renewables fking the system was a hoax from right wing media and petroligarchs. The same accwholes who want to sell Spain to emperor tromp.
a role model in weathering Iranian oil shocks
A very niche skill to be sure; the real, persistently useful skill is in weathering the consequences of America’s wars; would literally only become irrelevant when America swears off all wars (which, like, come on)
We cannot predict the future, especially Trump’s actions. Right now, Spain is proving to be resilient and sovereign.
Of course, if there will be a nuclear world war, it will be useless, but as future is uncertain, it is worth the effort.
Goddamnit, why can’t the rest of Europe be like Spain?
Lowkirkenuinely Spain has been giving me a lot of hope. Other than that monarchy fuckery a while back, they’ve been pretty consistent with their dubs
Aug. 2025, President Donald Trump said his administration will not approve solar or wind power projects, even as electricity demand is outpacing the supply in some parts of the US (before he started the Iranian fiasco). Trump posted, “We will not approve wind or farmer destroying solar. The days of stupidity are over in the USA!!!”
I was thinking about this today. It would certainly serve petroligarchs if renewables were paused and a war that only affects petrol supplies happened. Didn’t get much farther than that because of an entitlement tantrum.
Remember when Germany spent the entire 2010s lecturing countries like Spain about fiscal responsibility lmao
Yeah, the same Germany that just last year threw its own debt brake out the window for the sake of military spending 😂
Very fiscally responsible…
I also wonder how fiscally responsible it is to keep giving Ukraine tens of billions of Euros it will never be able to repay.
I wonder how fiscally responsible it is to shunt all your dirty industry to Poland, financialize your economy, and become entirely dependent on imported energy, all while criticizing your neighbors for investing in infrastructure
Greece!
Numero uno en energía y ferrocarril rápido.
I’m just imagining future demand for Chinese solar panels, wind mills, batteries, and EVs as a result of the war. Given that China has an effective monopoly on this tech, countries aligned with China will be the only ones whose economies can develop going forward.
