Hasan Piker exists in a superpositional state of either based/communist or cringe/liberal until observed.

Jokes aside, I think he does much more good for the movement than the likes of S4A and BadEmpanada, as they push people away from reasonable, logical positions and turn them super hostile even if they are ‘more left’ than Hasan. Hasan usually acts as a gateway towards reason and class consciousness but is too stubborn to drop his flawed electoralism.

I just can’t figure out how someone like S4A can make audiobooks of Lenin and Mao, and then regurgitate such levels of dogmatism/reductionism. Does he not register words in his brain when he reads them into the microphone.

That’s typical of people who are hyper-specialized.

It’s not enough to read theory, but you also need to connect that theory with the world around you through research. Which also means you need to learn how to do research.

A lot of people don’t, it’s not unique to marxism of course but you’ll also see the type of person who quote-mines a lot (posting quote after quote after quote), just unable to make their own analysis/synthesis outside of what marx et al. precisely said.

marxism is a living science and must be properly placed back in its social component. People endlessly arguing over the minute meaning of a single word that might have been mistranslated and takes away from Marx’s ‘intent’ are just splitting hairs imo, practice will look different to the theory regardless in any social situation. Even early Christians synthesized aspects of ‘pagan’ beliefs/rituals to make conversion easier, and they’re the dogmatic ones! But that’s Western MarxismTM I guess.

Extreme purist obsessiveness and a big ego does wonders. If you cling to every word, even if you preach against dogmatism specifiically, you become dogmatic because now you are merely parroting phrases rather than analysing the material reality around you.

My first interaction with him was basically, “hey thanks for doing these audiobooks, I’ve recently become interested in Marxism and Buddhism and you’ve taught me a lot on the former.” He then preceeded to over the course of 4 or 5 days argue with me over my personal choice to believe in reincarnation and no-self. It was pissing me off how superior he was trying to be to me in return so I kept arguing back (I shouldnt have bothered really). I tried to be respectful while holding my own and I told him let’s agree to disagree three or four different times until he eventually stopped.

Deeply unserious behavior. Shows a complete lack of ability to prioritize what is important and what isn’t. Sectarian mentality. One of the most important things we need to do if we want to grow our movement is to identify and suppress this type of behavior and this way of thinking in ourselves. It doesn’t mean we have to agree with everyone’s positions or beliefs, but we need to be able, at least temporarily, to put aside differences that don’t matter right now and focus on what actually matters.

Class unity, the advancement of national class consciousness, opposing reformism, keeping grounded to materialism, rejecting imperialism, fascism and so on matters far more than whether you think God exists, or the complex morality of euthanasia, or the logsitics of sex work, or whether my peepee smaller than yours for example. It’s barely relevant lol.

get in his chat and post prolewiki links at opportune moments honestly. not that prolewiki is the end-all be-all, but it’s a good starting resource that replaces having to type up a comment each and every time. for the anecdote i was on a server that suddenly got an influx of new people (went viral), and being able to link prolewiki instead of having to answer the same questions over and over again from people who weren’t there 5 minutes ago when it was asked was such a time saver

Hasan is like a lot of people on the US left. Their rational mind will read and agree with ML leaders and thinkers from around the world. However they have a hard time facing the reality that organizing in then US is next to impossible under the current conditions. So to give themselves some degree of hope, they latch onto the most tepid social democrats.

Yet still supports Ukraine, electorialism and trailing the masses by „being normal“.

You don’t win by stepping into ring already offering concessions. Mamdani essentially proved American Leftism to be a wet fart.

Hasan’s main motivation in organizing is building class consciousness. He thinks the best way to do that is by primarily supporting progressive left flank democrats within the party that are anti-zionist. His rationale is that most people in America are not ready to slam the communism button, and by doing this he is making socialist ideas more mainstream. If this strategy will work in America remains to be seen, but I understand the logic of trying to meet people where they are at and trying to grow a genuine peoples movement out of it.

Soon he’ll be sucking up to and supporting a bloodthirsty Democrat; he’s one step forward, two steps back.
