Sorry Ukraine but you are going to need to give up the rest of the Donbas, we all know you would lose it to the overwhelming military might of russia anyways.

Oh also, you are kicking russia’s ass too hard can you slow down? Maybe just don’t beat them as badly? It is impacting all of our economies and we are so very fragile like we have incorrectly narrativized you to be.

Sincerely,

Your “Allies”

Trump always saw the Iran War as an opportunity to fire all the Tomahawaks he was being pressured into giving Ukraine and to take pressure off of his daddy more broadly.

To Ukraine: Please keep up the good work, bomb russia more please and thank you. I don’t care if a couple of your drones gets a bit lost and drops in my country, good practice for our air defenses. I don’t care if the fuel price goes trough the roof, summer is coming, I have a bicycle, I can walk.

      Same!

The Iran War was a war that the US and Israel chose to launch after the Ukraine War had already been going for years, the country least guilty of raising gas prices here is Ukraine even if they are blowing up fossil fuel infrastructure every day in russia, there is NO OTHER WAY for Ukraine to stop the russian war machine… which is exactly why Ukraine’s “Allies” like the US are pushing Ukraine to stop.

Additionally there is ZERO INDICATION Ukraine has been pursuing peace talks not in good faith, so it isn’t like Ukraine is offering no alternative here where fossil fuel infrastructure wouldn’t get demolished along the process to peace. Ukraine is genuine in its desire for diplomacy to end the Ukraine War (I believe there is abundant enough evidence of this linking to one particular article would feel redundant) so if foreign powers want Ukraine to stop blowing up fossil fuel infrastructure in russia they should use their power to help Ukraine reach an actual peace deal that involves Ukraine not just handing away power in a fascimile of peace.

If I were Ukraine, I would speed up my process of destroying fossil fuel infrastructure in response to this if I could. It means the strategy is working for Ukraine, why else would they have bothered to send message to Ukraine to stop?

I don’t like that this is even a concern. Ukraine is under zero obligation to pursue peace talks in good faith. The fact this is even a concern is a capitulation imo. Russia’s stance is “we want everything and Ukraine gets nothing” and Ukraine is the problem? BS

It is in Ukraine’s best interests to pursue peace talks in good faith, russia not doing so is what is undermining it as a global power. It is the same with the US in its catastrophic approach to pretending to engage genuinely in diplomacy and peace talks with Iran while using them as cover to launch attacks.

There is no such thing as in good faith. They already had good faith peace talks in the 1990s, that they are not “good enough” prove that there is no point in more. Russia will do whatever.

The fact that russia isn’t negotiating in good faith sucks but it also makes Ukraine stronger on the world stage when Ukraine genuinely pursues an end to the war in good faith negotiation, the world knows the difference and it matters even if the leaders of our countries say otherwise.

When russia sabotages peace talks yet again, all it does in the end is isolate russia more from the international community and make Ukraine more sympathetic to people on the fence.

This doesn’t mean Ukraine has to be naive about this, rather I am pointing out that there is a very real long term and short term benefit to remaining genuine in negotiations even when russia isn’t.

I gotta say. I’m a car enthusiast. I love cars and the combustion engine. I’m one of those people who loves Top Gear/Grand Tour. I watch rally, F1, WEC and others. Annoying, stupid little things but I love them.

However. I support any and all efforts to build public transportation, bike lanes, walkable cities. I will never complain about fuel being expensive or regulations that limit my ability to drive a ICE car. I won’t shed a tear if the ICE is banned completely. Anyone who does is a short sighted moron.

Anyway, lets bomb more of russian oil infrastructure and let the petrol heads cry.

I think an ICE engine/ICE sports cars are genuinely fascinating in the way mechanical clocks can be fascinating. I can appreciate that for 99% of things it was good we moved to digital clocks while still appreciating mechanical clocks because digital clocks allowed us to focus on appreciating mechanical clocks in contexts that actually bring out the most human parts of them, i.e. clocks as public architecture on a tower or clocks as art or jewelry.

Same thing with “Digital” versus “Analog” systems. Analog systems are cool, they are fascinating in their mechanical aptitude, but let us appreciate them as art not as tools of daily life when we have better options.

You cannot beat the mechanical simplicity and directness of an Electric Motor. An Internal Combustion Engine is comically complex in comparison… but that also means that if we switch to mostly Electric Vehicles for all the day to day annoying stuff, then the engineering mastery and complexity of the odd ICE engine car becomes projected into the artistic light it has always been denied because of how brutally necessary ICE engine cars/trucks are to daily modern life for how destructive and unsustainable they are when used by everyone as their primary transportation.

TL;DR Boring every day EVs make ICE engine cars much cooler in a weird way, which is actually fine so long as it doesn’t “boomerang” and ICE cars become a necessary performance of wealth…

            Hear hear.

Its a small miracle that we can do hundreds of thousands of kilometers with these engines without major problems. Knowing how complex they are and how small and weak some of the parts are, I’m baffled that they aren’t constantly dismantling rapidly into thousands of pieces

But that name has the same problem as “defund the police.” People just see the title and make their conclusions from it without looking inside and thinking about it too much. Though I gotta say, the reddit fuckcars was a bit unhinged at times, a few times I visited that place, they were nearly demanding lynching of people who happened to own a car. But thats also partly the fault of reddit being a bit mad at times.

Aanyways, the past couple years, as I’ve aged 200 years, I’ve come to the conclusion that going to extremes with anything is really unhealthy for you. Like… yes, go vegan. But don’t spit on someone if they eat a sausage. Use bicycles and public trans, but don’t throw milkshakes on a guy driving his Yaris. Make sure you don’t litter, but don’t push a guy under a bus because they accidentally dropped a candy wrapper. Don’t waste food, but also don’t force someone to eat moldy food just because they forgot grandmas gravy in the fridge for 3 months.

I try to stay away from these fuckXYZ communities. They always start as a funny pretend-extreme way, but they pretty much always end up dropping the pretense and become actually toxic. Full disclosure, I haven’t checked the lemmy fuckcars, they are probably nice and chill people.

It is especially enraging because needing to fight for Ukraine’s freedom is one of the biggest costs we have had to pay for fossil fuel reliance. Russia would never of had the money without Europe leaning on russian gas.
