Started watching HBOs The Dark Wizard today. Three episodes in and I found him genuinely insufferable and yet I could not stop watching because I recognized the architecture of it. Not the climbing. The part where the thing that makes you extraordinary is indistinguishable from the thing that’s slowly killing you and everyone around you knows it except you, or worse, you know it too and just don’t care enough to stop. The result is roughly the same, people who loved you standing around with complicated feelings trying to figure out how much of it was genius and how much was just a very compelling death wish. The doc is great. He was kind of an asshole. Both things are true.

The final episode is pretty devastating but poignant. Really can’t recommend it enough.

“Your Friends and Neighbors” Fired exec decides to rob from the people in his wealthy neighborhood. You will hate everybody on the show.

“Hellbound” Demons are appearing in public and carrying people off to Hell. The really scary part is when righteous mobs and politicians get involved.

Old one. “TURN - George Washington’s Spies.” Good history. Good intrigue. Fantastic villain.

Perfect. I’d definitely like to watch this but i don’t have appleTV right now, or whatever its on.

Loved Hamm in Mad Men, which also has you hating every character.

        Apple is worth a watch.

Slow Horses, Silo, Down Cemetery Road, and quite a few others.

One of the things on ‘Friends…’ is listening to Hamm describe that insanely expensive things he’s stealing. A $150,000 pen??

I am subscribed but barely watch these days, invasion, foundation, silo were all fantastic, dark matter was alright, did get a bit repetitive half way through, decent pay off though, I really enjoyed sunny.

Pantheon. Pretty solid science fiction with enough emotional depth that gets me choked up occasionally. Worth a watch for sure!

“Kacken an der Havel” (English title is “Crap Happens”) A very very silly German show about a millennial wanting to be a rapper. But when he is about to attract a record deal his mother dies (she fall from a tree, trying to rescue a duck) and he is forced to return to his hometown Kacken (literally Crapping) for the funeral.

Of course you can only make it big when you’re in Berlin but he is always held back by his crappy family.

It is incredibly silly, full of bad jokes and somehow I still love it. No idea if the translation can do it justice.

    Halo

I tried this show when it was released and remember it being terrible. Since it is on Netflix I decided to give it another shot.

For those that have not played the game, the game is an FPS where you play the Master Chief who is a “spartan”. Spartans are super warriors who primarily fight an alien race called “The Covenant”.

This time around I made it to S1E8 before I pulled the plug. Good lord this show is just terrible. The whole thing is just clumsy palace politics involving characters that the show hasn’t done anything to make the audience give a shit about. Honestly if I had not played any of the games I would have no idea who any of the characters are. The show didn’t give me any reason to care about of the characters.

As absurd as it sounds, the only character that was at all interesting was Kai-125, one of the Spartans, and most of that revolved around her not being a Spartan. The Spartans are why I am watching the show.

There is a storyline that involves a character from “Halo Universe Tattooine” that was just so plodding and pointless. By E5 I was fast forwarding through it. There is also a story that is adjacent to that character about a once was Spartan turned pirate that is also plodding and pointless and I started fast forwarding past it as well.

Then there is everything to with John 117 (The Master Chief and primary Spartan) and holy shit everything to do with him is also so plodding and pointless. The character spends most of the show with his helmet off, probably because he cant see out the fucking thing, staring at things with a concerned, stern look on his face.

this is how I felt about dune for thirty years until the recent movies which were great, I went into them wanting to hate them because I hated the book, the audiobook, and the original movie but really enjoyed them.

Watching season 1 of Sono Bisque Doll (AKA My Dress-Up Darling) on netflix, its second season is coming out some time this year.

If you can get past the lewd humour, there’s a satisfying story in there.
