tempted to add fire sounds and a lofi soundtrack to relax and burn flags to, but in my head adding sound is going to be a headache.
I thought about adding a fireplace mode (panic mode or something? lol). You just click to drop logs and twigs in the canvas dynamically and the fire spreads and everything. Maybe 1 in 15 chance it drops a miniature flag instead.
It might be a lot more work than it’s worth, but I’d love it

Is it just me or do different colors burn at different rates?
yep, based on luminance and individual color values (RGB). This allows the fire to follow patterns in the flag instead of burning everything at the same rate. I also tried it with a noise map so that pixels randomly have higher or lower resistance to the fire, but it was too random and didn’t look right in my opinion.
I can tweak the values a bit though and the physics as well so they’re just right. I was actually thinking of making red a bit more resistant.

Unfortunately at present this seems to be causing some difficulty with black in the South Korea flag for vanquishing it completely.
I noticed as well, I’ll try to deploy something so black is easier to destroy. probably just a bypass of the luminance system for very dark colors
okay all fixed, it was much simpler than that haha. burns nice patterns in the black pixels now :)

It tickled my brain just right for the day.
its a little bit of an odd one but Japanese imperial flag i think would be a nice one to see. Although I kinda consider Japan occupied by the US now, and its flag is changed, it still uses the imperial flag in celebration of many things related to its war crimes and to honor their dead soldiers. Additionally because of their lack of effort in rectifying the atrocities they’ve heavily strained their relationship in the region and most Japanese citizens don’t even know about atrocities committed.
I’m running out of ideas on what to add so why not honestly. Current Japan flag might be a little boring to burn since it’s just one circle, but since they haven’t broken away from or even apologized for their imperial past it’s still pretty much their flag.
not even mentioning the suppression of the Ainu which continued even after the “empire collapsed after ww2”
