I feel like I’m greatly lacking in knowledge on the birth of class society: have any books or articles been written on the matter? I’m also interested in the communist societies and why they were ultimately extinguished.
Samir Amin covers a lot of this in his earlier works
I’ll look into it, thanks!
I’ll make a guide but also you can read Only People Make Their Own History to get a survey of his work while I unfuck my todo list and regain sapience
You may wanna look up Prolewiki page on human history.
Thanks!
I found these two textbooks from the USSR: An Outline of Social Development: Chapter 1 and Political Economy: Chapter 1.
Thanks!
Bebel’s work woman and socialism has this as a topic
Thanks!
I would recommend Origin of the family, private property and the state by Engels https://en.prolewiki.org/wiki/Library:The_origin_of_the_family,_private_property_and_the_state
A very good beginner recommendation but i would just preface that with a warning that some of its anthropology is outdated. Engels was working with the information that was available to Europeans at the time, so there are some misunderstandings of native American cultures. The broader framework he presents is still solid though.
Thanks for the tip, I’ll keep that in mind
I just stumbled onto this video today about egalitarianism in pre-historic hunter-gatherer societies and the development of patriarchy that might interest you since it is related to the topic you were asking about:
Very interesting video, thank you!
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
