That‘s a hell of a sandwich.
Shrinkflation comes for everything, even our sandwiches!
Those bastards!
I see two massive slices of bread with no visible gap between. I know there was rationing, but calling two slices of bread a sandwich is a bit much.

British culinary concepts are… something.
“the filling between two slices of bread is itself a thin slice of toasted bread, which may be buttered.[1][2] An 1861 recipe says to add salt and pepper to taste.[1] A version is served at the British three-Michelin-starred restaurant the Fat Duck.”
There is so much to dissect here
We used to call that a “wish sandwich”.
Hey, you don’t know. There could have been mayonnaise.
It seems there is a separate, smaller sandwich on top of this large sandwich. Perhaps it is a club sandwich of sorts.
People ate sandwiches of mostly bread in that era. Americans inverted the ratio.
“Ah, finally, enough with that French nonsense, some good British food!”
What’s the clear eye protection I can see on two of their foreheads?
Awesome, thanks!
