Starting to follow the Lego story: Man, I hope those people get their Legos back or some money

Caught up on the Lego story: The American “justice” system is beyond saving.

woah wait THIS is the dude from that story about the 80 something year old who had his entire Star Wars Lego collection stolen by some lego store!? holy crap the fuck is going on.

I briefly read a short blurb about it the other day and then today I see this “reckless ben” posted all over the place and had no clue the two things were related.

The unredacted body cam footage was not leaked. It was incompetently made available by the local government in response to a public information request.

And it is morally corrupt local cops being exactly the thing we have come to know.

I’m not usually an ACAB kinda guy… But this makes a really strong case for it.

Ben really was much more polite and cooperative with these cops than he needed to be. The fact that this is still happening is probably going to convince more people that policing is broken than it would have otherwise.

Imagine what they get up to when they don’t have a camera in their face.

The justice system is an enormous compromise. For individuals to trust a (presumably) neutral third party to enact justice on their behalf is among the greatest achievements of human civilization. Damage to that institution doesn’t merely risk violence, it morally necessitates it.
