My face when my mom recently have my toys to my son (I’m in my mid 30s)
Me, the 35 year old cousin the toys are going to:
I worked with a lady 20 years ago… one day she came up to me and asked me, “My kids outgrew Pokémon. You like Pokémon, want to buy their stuff for cheap?” I immediately said “Yes absolutely”
She offered me four big (Pokémon themed) duffles/backpacks full of Pokémon figures, plushies, and other toys. She also had three card albums full of the whole base sets, tons of jungle/fossil/rocket cards, and a bunch of other cards up to 2003 or 2004. She asked for around 150USD, which I agreed to—I didn’t have any money at the time, but also who am I to pass up on giving Pokémon stuff a good home?
I have almost everything she gave me still! I should go through it all sometime…
When I was a kid/teenager (back in the '90s), I had a complete collection of Goosebumps books. They were my prize possession.
One day, my mom packed them up and mailed them to my baby cousin for his birthday, because “You’ve already read them all! Let your cousin enjoy them now!”
I never saw them again. I asked my cousin about it years later and he had no memory of ever receiving a Goosebumps book collection.
I just re-bought the whole collection on eBay recently, so there was eventually a happy ending. I’m currently re-reading the series.
OMG those books are quite literally all I had. I guess I did check most of them out from the library but the few I had I treasured. My mom always threw out or gave away my stuff. If she had taken those books I would have lost the will to live. I’m so sorry that happened to you. Little kid me wants to give little kid you a hug.
Going to go against the general consensus here and say that if you wanted that stuff, you should have picked it up a while ago instead of expecting your parents to store it for 20+ years for free.
That said, the parents should have likewise given the opportunity to pick it up before giving it away.
Yeah, no. You don’t give away somebody else childhood things. I had one of the last things my dead father bought thrown out because “it was too old”
Teenage, legos. And while I love my cousins they went to, there’s no way in hell I’m getting those back to pass on to my own daughter now. I’m still pissed about it.
“I was keeping them for my kids! Legos are expensive and we’re in recession!”
