Spent a morning out on the town on my day off, and everyone is just fucking buried in their phones 24/7. This realization was so absurd to me

Of course I’m not exempt from this shit, but no wonder people are having so much trouble making friends and creating meaningful relationships in this day and age. So fucking bleak

      They are different.

      That doesn’t mean one is cut and dry better than the other, but I think it’s a dubiously dismissive argument to claim that a handheld device deliberately designed one update at a time, one software novelty at a time, for maximum attention draw, maximum engagement, and maximum distraction must only be as bad as television programming. Just seems knee-jerk to assume so.

      I think OP is also trying to make the point that before the phones TV was the idiot box. Now it’s right in our devices and we literally just wake up and dive into it.

      Yes, the technology has allowed us to form connections and learn so much but it has its pros and cons. That should seriously be considered because obviously these algorithms are created to just addict us
