July 26: hold my warm beer
takes one look at boiling beer
Not without oven mitts, mate!
Wasn’t July supposed to be hotter and August the hottest? This heatwave felt like a demo
Put speakers outside and blast this on repeat
You first
I would if I had any.
Texan: First time?
Yup, but we’re not living in a desert so that’s a bit shocking
Yeah it’s a wild concept (somehow) but heatwaves in places with buildings made to retain heat somehow do worse than places with buildings made to dispel heat
Spanish be like:

Give it time.
Yeah, the Dallas i remember from growing up was a lot greener than what reality is showing me lately. Zeroscape lawns have taken over a good chunk of the richer neighborhoods. I guess when you piss $100 into the lawn every month, you start to see the appeal of having a massive Zen-garden.
Y’all really need to just pony up for some AC.
Can’t have proper AC in switzerland, that’s banned by law. So everyone buys cheap mobile air conditioners and wastes a bunch of energy because those suck. Thanks, government
Oh, echt? Erzähl!
According to one source I bumped into, most cantons have you jumping through loads of bureaucratic hoops to install it. You must consider noise and aesthetics, and some require you to state if you have a legitimate need for one.
One outcome is that the Swiss buy portable units in droves, and frankly, those suck.
Thanks. Yes of course those mobile devices have more than one downside. In the end they spend more power to achieve barely ok cooling.
I’ve used one before we installed a split ac in Germany. It’s really really worth it.
NL here, so fortunately bureaucracy about whether AC’s are allowed is thankfully not as much of a thing here. My problem unfortunately is that I live in a rented house, and our heating setup is based on hot water radiators so grafting an AC onto the heaters is impossible, and I’d have to go via the landlord to get an AC installed. And since I’m hoping to move out before the decade is over, getting a proper system installed is not worth the monetary investment in my situation.
Best I can do is one of those weak-ass portable units, which only cool my place down to bearably hot.
Meanwhile, someone in my family has a proper AC, and their place has been a godsent this heat wave.
Yeah, one of the issues with renting. But while I can do modifications I want I also have to pay whatever comes up (eg gutter & roof ridge) and if you wait it will only get more expensive.
Of course you also pay that when renting but not so suddenly. Either way, we all pay a lot 🤣
Money really could fix all my problems. What a sad thing I have to acknowledge.
Actually it would make things even worse.
What’s up with these comments?
Every new building should be prepared for AC. Older block buildings have issues with where you put your external units.
