Yeah, it’s also straight-up unfinished. They really just desecrated Indigenous land and didn’t even have the consistency in their shitty behaviour to carry it out completely.

The current Idiot-in-chief adding his likeness to it would be like pissing on a shit cake.

In the defense of the incompleteness it’s more a side effect of original plans being scrapped due to rock strengthen. Basically it was originally going to be grander but those plans were largely scrapped due to rock strength and the original crews just kinda getting sick of working on it.

This means it’s time to take down all those faces, restore the Six Grandfathers, and give it back to the Lakota Sioux.

If anyone wants Rushmore back, make it out of concrete by a population center.

This has already been looked into, because he said he wanted to be on Mount Rushmore during his first term, and a bill was introduced last year to add him.

No matter how much he may want it, it’s not possible; there’s not enough rock left on the mountain, and what’s there is too fragile to support it.

The New York Times actually had a good article last year with 3D visualizations showing exactly why it can’t happen: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/06/27/us/mount-rushmore-trump.html?unlocked_article_code=1.vFA.N4J6.i9vauCc4EdSZ

    So at least there’s that.

As if facts would stop the regime. I bet there’s some sort of a pool guy (and, purely coincidentally, Republican donor) that can pour that mug in concrete and nail it to the rock.

I hope you’re not too attached to that monument - once everything collapses, there will be a sabotage/terrorism spinjob and they’ll start searching for a new rock face in which to carve Trump, Trump, Trump and Trump.

Oh, they absolutely might still try. And if they do, they’ll probably irreversibly destroy some or all of the existing monument, which seems fitting for this administration.

But at least it doesn’t seem possible that we’ll ever end up with Trump’s head up there, no matter how much he might want it, and it does make me a little happy to know that he can’t get everything he wants.

Remember the SCOTUS is giving too much power to a President. Precdent has been set, so let’s vote for the next President that will use executive orders with as much abandon as ever, to claw back those billions. What we forget is that Trump is singular with his cutthroat aporach to thuggish-gangsta style “leadership” due to WHO taught him how to act: Roy Cohn, who is now dead and no one can replicate. JD Vance will be eaten alive by the Senate, and the Mitch McConnells are tottering on their graves and “capitalism” has become so toxic to families in it’s late (or end-) stage form, that social problems won’t be fixed by it, leading to political ones. Mamdani isn’t an outlier… he’s the slowly arriving future.

I sure hope so. My wish is that they curtail presidential powers to an almost ceremonial level. No immunity, no pardons, no executive orders. While in office and direct or indirect income other than the presidential salary should be relinquished and full public availability of tax and business records will be a requirement.

Leaving the unelected out of it, won’t solve the problem.

It’ll just get latched onto by the right as the perfect solution to downsize the government even more as the average government workers quit to find better paying jobs. (AI be heavily pushed by the tech bros to fill in a ton of the clerical work slots that open up.) The American public will grumbe, sigh then resign themselves to the new reality as the pivot happens. The TV propagandists wil spin it into savings for the taxpayer and the government will throw a couple hundred bucks back to each family for a year or two to pacify them.

Then everything shuts down as the emboldened billinairs fund the political machine to suit them and their agandas - abd they’ll be barefaced about it like the public has never seen.

Secondly, do we miss that most politicians are millionaires by the time they get into office?

They, more than most, will be able to buy whatever services they need to run their politicial affaris and get all the cash they need fron the ultra wealthy…

It’s actually the elected that need to be the first people to be pinched by minimum wage incomes. Hard.

States may have to step up…

Thing is, this has been a right wing plan for the last 46 years, so let’s not fool ourselves that any solution is going to happen overnight.

For another, he really is this this big an idiot. He’s blundering through the government like a big fat toddler, just breaking shit at random. Stop making it sound like he’s a mastermind. What he’s doing is more dangerous than a plan, because nobody has defenses against this.

Others in this administration are not stupid. Trump is not the one masterminding plans. He does whatever the last or loudest person in his ear tells him to do.

Also, it’s very important not to underestimate the power of stupidity and incompetence to fuck society.

Seriously, read this short article and tell me you can’t easily supplant trump’s name everywhere and it’s not uncanny:

Hitler Was Incompetent and Lazy—and His Nazi Government Was an Absolute Clown Show.

Plenty of first-person sources in the book.

Even if trump dropped dead today, this fascist movement wouldn’t stop. He’s a carnival barker and a genuine moron, chosen because he’s a social wrecking ball. But don’t mistake his blundering for 3d chess.

    FWIW,

    wp:Mount Rushmore

Borglum chose Mount Rushmore in part because it faces southeast for maximum sun exposure. The carving was the idea of Doane Robinson, South Dakota’s state historian. Robinson originally wanted the sculpture to feature American West heroes, such as Lewis and Clark, their expedition guide Sacagawea, Oglala Lakota chief Red Cloud,[11] Buffalo Bill Cody,[12] and Oglala Lakota chief Crazy Horse.[13] Borglum, arguing that the sculpture should be national in scope rather than regional, convinced them to choose the four presidents instead.

The sculpture at Mount Rushmore was built on land that was taken from the Sioux Nation in the 1870s.[16] The Sioux continue to demand return of the land, and in 1980 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in United States v. Sioux Nation of Indians that the taking of the Black Hills required just compensation and awarded the tribe $102 million. The Sioux have refused the money, and demand the return of the land. This conflict continues, leading some critics of the monument to refer to it as a “Shrine of Hypocrisy”.[17]

The peak that would later be known as Mount Rushmore is situated in the Black Hills, which has been inhabited by numerous indigenous groups over the centuries. The Ponca, Arikara, and Mandan were among the earliest recorded inhabitants, and were later displaced by the Kiowa, Plains Apache, and Shoshone. By 1800 those groups were supplanted by the Cheyenne, Arapaho, and Lakota Sioux, with the Lakota becoming the majority in the area by 1850.[18][19]

    Proposals to add additional faces

In 1937, when the sculpture was not yet complete, a bill in Congress supporting the addition of women’s rights activist Susan B. Anthony failed. When the sculpture was completed in 1941, the sculptors said that the remaining rock was not suitable for additional carvings. This stance was shared by RESPEC, an engineering firm charged with monitoring the stability of the rock in 1989. Proposals of additional sculptures include John F. Kennedy after his assassination in 1963, and Ronald Reagan in 1985 and 1999 – the latter proposal receiving a debate in Congress at the time.[120] Barack Obama was asked about his own potential addition in 2008 and he joked that his ears were too large.[121]

Donald Trump has expressed interest in his own addition to the mountain. During a 2017 rally in Ohio, Trump said, “I’d ask whether or not you some day think I will be on Mount Rushmore … If I did it joking, totally joking, having fun, the fake news media will say, ‘He believes he should be on Mount Rushmore.’ So I won’t say it.”[122] South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem described the potential addition as Trump’s “dream” in 2018.[123] On January 28, 2025, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) introduced a bill, H.R. 792, in the House of Representatives to add Trump’s likeness to the monument.[124]

Those of us Europeans with long term roots in this continent, we have speckled history.

Really though, we have nothing to apologize for… We weren’t involved and for many, any familial benefits realized are long gone.

My own ancestors came off the Mayflower, and all but eradicated the Pequot tribe in Connecticut decades later.

The history is pretty ugly and for sure there was lots of hypocrisy, lies and theft.

No romanticizing my ancestral past… It’s not like I had anything to do with it and thankfully those people are dead and their wretched worldwiews went with them.

Yaah, they were assholes. Sucks that it happened.
