From the GOG newsletter: “A note about your GOG Patrons subscription”

#GOG
Good Guy GOG
Yeah, they’re so great for… not charging their monthly donation subscription twice?
… For giving everyone of them the month for free because they messed up their billing.
Also if I may add, having followed GOG for some 9 years now, it always seemed to me like their worst side is transparency/communications, only starting to change in recent years but weakly so. Having them share the information openly, even if by newsletter, is to me quite the improvement already.
A free month of… access to a discord server?
As a Patron, you’ll get access to our dedicated community Discord server, featuring fun gaming-related activities and exclusive video content, plus special recognition across GOG in the form of unique badges and mentions on GOG Preservation Program game pages. Perks may grow or change over time, but we’ll always communicate them clearly before you sign up.
I can’t imagine GOG is losing much
Doesn’t change the fact that it’s a decent move. “Sorry guys we didnt bill you when expected so now we just wont bill you at all until the next interval”.
You had to scroll through a lot on your linked site to get to the part that you copied… It is not a service, it is more of a donation. Hence the name “Patron” I assume.
It is not a service, it is more of a donation.
Yeah, they’re so great for… not charging their monthly donation subscription twice?
I’m pretty sure I knew that already. The other guy said they got a month “for free,” which begs the question “what are you getting?”
Nothing material in the sense that you imply. Access to the community, that’s it.
A free month of… access to a discord server?
Thanks, but I’m pretty sure I already knew that too
You were wrong and now you’re barking at some other thing, a bit pathetic isn’t it? It’s not life threatening to say you misunderstood. It happens to all of us.
It’s because he has a small penis and being a big dick online helps him forget about it for a moment.
Don’t ask me how I know. :/
Have i misunderstood. They wouldn’t have been charging it twice. They messed up the billing so their options were charge for the missed one or don’t charge. Not charge twice…
Presumably, if they didn’t give everyone affected a “free month” of access to a discord server, they would charge them for the month where there was a mistake and then again for the current month. They’d be charging twice now to make up for the fact that some people weren’t charged earlier.
What? The message literally says they will not be charging for the missed month
if they didn’t give everyone affected a “free month” of access to a discord server, they would charge them
Why is everyone in this thread telling me what I already said?
You ever stop to consider that perhaps you’re the one having issues communicating with everybody else?
I see this like people making comments without reading a linked article in a post: you already think you know what it says so you don’t bother actually reading anything to make sure you’re right. I don’t think it really matters what I say if people aren’t even going to bother reading it.
So rather than admit you might have been wrong, you invented a situation where you were right
It was me explaining how GOG are the good guys, for not charging twice, for their monthly donation subscription.
It’s objectively the right thing to do, but it shouldn’t even matter because anyone donating to a for-profit company should be financially secure enough to handle a late withdrawal from their account.
So again, while GOG not charging people on the donation subscription plan is the right thing to do, GOG doesn’t provide much (if anything) of value for that subscription in the first place.

Why would anyone donate to a for profit company?
To support it?

Good Old Guys
Dear patron,
in light of the recent bad publicity for shining a light on our Nazi leanings, we’ve decided that we can’t afford any more bad publicity at the moment, and are highlighting how cool and good we are by eating a small financial mistake we made.
Rest assured that if we couldn’t financially afford to do this we wouldn’t be allowing you to keep your free month.Best,
Do you have a source for that claim?
Of their knowing sharing of Nazi imagery? Yes.
Then… can you share that source with us? I won’t just believe you unless you can give me evidence
They basically used runes in a newsletter for a promotion of a game that “rendered unfavorably on some devices”. Whether it’s a QA error or if it was intentional with “plausible deniability” was debated everywhere a few weeks ago.

And not only that, but they said “Hey, Germans will probably he sensitive to these so we’ll ship these to everyone but them”.
German team flagged it, but did not communicate it in time to the other teams.
It’s probably not about sensitivity(people outside of Germany are actually more sensitive to that for obvious reasons) but because it’s illegal in Germany.
Sure, but the issue remains the same; they absolutely knew what those symbols would be interpreted as, and still went aged with it.
The illegality is the sensitivity.
The game being advertised talks about how Nazis adopted ancient symbols that previously had nothing to do with Nazis. A problem to have the double lightning bolts there but it’s a bit of a stretch to say it’s some kind of “tee hee we’re actually Nazis” dog whistle bs.
Source or fuck the hell off.
Go fuck yourself, trash. Learn to read.
So no source then. Go spread your lies elsewhere.
There is quite literally a source posted directly above you. Stop flaming, calm down and take in new information. This was a very well publicized story.
The apology doesn’t substantially address how the symbols wound up in the email in the first place. The problem with the runes isn’t their placement, it’s that they are explicitly and indelibly associated with Nazis and white supremacists. Just as with the swastika, their meaning prior to the Third Reich is irrelevant: The Nazi links are too clear and prevalent to pretend that any other connection is equally meaningful.
A source was already shared hours before you decided to be a dick. Fuck off and read it.
A relevant source, I do not see one where GOG is ran by nazis mr tourette.
Oh you do have a source? Please share then, I’d like to learn.
A source has already been shared, hours ago. You’re clearly just trying to be antagonizing.
Not at all, you were the one who said you had a source. So I wanted your source. I’ve read the ones other people posted. But you are the one antagonizing, because you started this whole source discussion, yet you seem to be the only one who isn’t providing one. You’re just talking shit and letting everyone else try to back you up.
You wanna parrot what you “heard” and expect others to back you up, but when I ask you for a source, I want yours. But sure, sit on that high horse if you want, but everyone else can see it’s not a horse, it’s an ass.
Is this satire?
I can’t see such a question without this coming to mind… e.e"
