I am a listener of everything, I have a playlist I’ve been building for about 16 years and its 8 days long and covers more or less every genre that can be covered.

    I’ll give a listen

The 90s were weird for goth. It became more an aesthetic thing than a music style. Type O Negative were for sure influenced by goth, but theyre an alternative rock band imo. And then industrial became a thing and I love industrial, but while there is a lot of cultural crossover with goth, the music ain’t goth, its industrial. It’s not really splitting hairs when Siouxsie and the Banshees as well as Marilyn Manson are counted as the same music genre. It was the beginning of goth being commodified fucking hard and applied to anything with dark aesthetics, in the 2000s the term emo replaced it for a while, suddenly the dude with the black leather trench coat who loves Marilyn Manson is an emo and not a goth. Both terms were use pejorative and usually they’d just lump it all under the term F-slur, all of this leading to the Goth Girl fetish crap we see now. Goth is part of punk and punk belongs to the punks, not the business men. I feel strongly about subculture not being generalized and watered down to appease casual interest. There needs to be some gates kept or it all goes to shit fast. Especially when its the same people that called it all f-slur music or emo for 15 years decides that they like nu metal and goth girls make their pee pee hard now. The people within these subcultures make these distinctions because when you listen to a lot of music its nice to have distinctions that properly describe the music.
