Bitch I saw SAOII, Ordinal Scale (my favorite), and both parts of Alicization

I’m strong enough to get through the series (I just haven’t saw Progressive, Alternative, or Abridged (I’m avoiding that one like the plague))

I’m just a rando online but I would say give Abridged a shot. It’s clear that they understood the show and while they do poke fun, it’s not just constantly shitting on it like I’ve seen from some abridged series. That said, Abridged Kirito is portrayed kinda like Donald Duck in that he’s deliberately insufferable so that you laugh when he gets his comeuppance (which is frequent), so if you think that would be too much to power thru, just give it a pass then.

I’m not a certified SAO hater but I did sour on it by myself after the Alfheim arc started so I loved what Abridged did to “fix” some of my issues with it, and it has a hella memorable ending to the Aincrad arc that actually uses the OP (This Is War by Thirty Seconds to Mars) for the climax.

I love Gundam too, just not certain parts

Edit: the irony behind this meme is that none of the comments are talking about Gundam

I love to hate on SAO

But that’s true of nearly all anime’s. They’re filled with plot holes, shitty power scaling, and nonsensical magic/science lore.

Turns out, having a culture of single authors writing weekly released manga and then rapidly turning them into anime to ride hype trains leads to some honestly terrible stories.

But its fun! We know they’re stories being told by really small teams if a team at all and they’re trying their best to entertain us.

Also, it’s a good way to see what you do and don’t like in any story. I’ve found hating on anime’s has taught me what I appreciate it something and then I stick to stories that do that well.

SAO taught me I love fantasy aesthetic anime’s but also that lone wolf angst gets old to me.

It’s peak hate watch material. It’s world building is ass, it’s character writing is worse, the animation is mid (yes, even for the time), and it somehow eclipsed vastly better shows of the time.

If the anime industry learned from Log Horizon or Grimgar instead we’d be in such a better place.

SAO is top tier. Until the fucking fairy shit.

Then they did a second season where they did the exact same fucking bullshit.

It must be on purpose. There is no way it played out like that unless the writers wanted to intentionally set up rug pulls.

Yeah, I’m a sucker for the “OP protagonist wins effortlessly all the time and everyone loves him” shows. Sometimes you just want to hear a feel-good story set in a world where the good guys just win like it’s the only logical conclusion. There’s enough suffering and uncertainty in the real world without it needing to be in the fake worlds I escape to; I want them to be low-stakes auto-success stories more often than not.

It’s always the toxic communities that end up hurting the shows more than the show itself. I remember stumbling across SAO having heard nothing about it and enjoyed it, only to later see people constantly criticizing it.

Ah, yeah, that’ll probably do it. I must have glazed over that because I straight up don’t remember any of rape, unlike the unforgettable first episode of goblin slayer.

Ironically, Goblin Slayer returns to the intensity of its first episode basically never again in the show (except for brief moments occasionally through out both seasons).

True. Though unfortunately Goblin Slayer ends up being uninteresting after season 1. I wouldn’t say it’s bland (because it still has a fair bit of violence), but it just seems to stall out

Suguha is explicitly stated to be Kirito’s cousin and was also raised as his sister. It’s alsoexplicitly stated that she was in love with Kirito. This is in the 2nd half of season 1, the Alfheim Online Arc.

And there’s also the scene where Asuna escapes from her cell in the 2nd half of season 1, where she ends up recaptured by guards who for some “mysterious” reason are tentacle monsters, and casually suggest tentacle raping Asuna before putting her back in her cage. And there is literally 0 point for the scene to be like this except the writer and anime studio wanted to suggest tentacle rape.

If you had instead said it’s just a couple of bad scenes in an otherwise good show, that’d be one thing. I wouldn’t agree, but I could at least respect that argument. But no, you didn’t make that argument. You instead feigned ignorance of a show you claim to be a fan of just to call me a poser.

And for the record, I watched through Gun Gale Online when it came out. The end of that was barely less gross than the Alfheim Arc.

I can actually argue against this

Suguha may have feelings for Kirito, but not only did Suguha accepted that her brother was with someone else, but also we see why she was like that. She lost her brother to a death game and before that, he was also isolating himself from her because he wasn’t really part of the family. So it was less of a “incest relationship”, and more a someone who wanted her brother back

Also, Asuna didn’t do nothing. Not only did she learned about Oberon’s real plans, but she managed to steal a card that allowed Kirito get pass a literally impossible task that was by design. But you’ll actually know that if you didn’t prioritize focusing on “tencle rape”.

            But the series fantasizes rape

Which why the main character beat the every lovin’shit out of the man who raped his GF in front of him and beat up another guy who was going to do the same thing this his friend, and basically killed another person for doing to another friend. The series NEVER fantasized SA, it clearly shows how bad it is and has our protagonist stops it

These reasons are why I can’t SAO haters, your heads so far up your ass to see that the series is demonizing SA and has the characters commiting SA be brutally punished. If you just don’t like seeing SA in shows, that’s fine. I don’t like those scenes either. But I at least have the media literacy to know why these are there and to highlight how evil the villains are. So don’t go saying that SAO has a rape fetish without understanding the point of the scene.

Wasn’t there a scene where it was heavily implied that Suguha had just masturbated to Kirito? You’re writing an entire essay to argue against what the anime very directly states.

The series NEVER fantasized SA, it clearly shows how bad it is and has our protagonist stops it

Take a step back and actually loom at the show. None of the actions or plans for any of the villians ever make any sense. The sexual assualts are distractions to prevent the audience from realizing that. But the author picks distractions that he thinks are cool. It’s a tactic called ‘debate and switch’. It’s when the author writes themselves into a corner that they don’t want to address, so they have the villain do something ridiculously evil out of left field to distract the audience.

These reasons are why I can’t SAO haters, your heads so far up your ass

Ironic. A lot of us can actually tell when the author makes immature asspulls throughout the series. But you seem incapable of that and get irrationally angry about it.

What’s really sad is that I originally sympathized with you. I despise NGE and everyone who tries to push it into my face. But you’ve just been so unpleasant here that I don’t give a shit. Ta ta

Also as a sidenote: this asshole also wrote “glomping 2 years of cum into her pussy” in one of SAO’s side stories. The author hasn’t matured past age 14. Maybe that’s why you’re a fan of the series.

Now I know you’re making shit up, since there wasn’t a scene like that at all

none of the villains make sense

Sugou clearly wanted to use Kayaba’s technology to mind control people, which was clearly stated in the series itself. And Kyoji was clearly wanted Shino, what was rejected. Those are some clear motivations
