The death penalty is barbaric and should be abolished. Any truly guilty person can rot in prison for life but abolishing the death penalty ensures no innocent person is executed by the state.
Exactly. Unless the justice system can be perfect and right 100% of the time (it can’t), then you shouldn’t be dealing out punishments that cannot be reversed.
Life in prison can (sort of) be reversed if it turns out to be a mistake: you can release the person from prison. The death penalty can never be undone.
I don’t know if we’re ready for a conversation about the gender biases in the justice system, such that Tennessee executing 17 men isn’t noteworthy at all, but executing 1 woman is headline news.
