I somehwat agree, however: You don’t always do a deep dive in everything you are not at least a little interested in. You don’t research every mom and pop shop before buying there. He had to do his research because of the acting gig, and decided that, after that research, he did not want to do anything with that. If anything it’s at least good to see that this story has that effect on him.

Trying to rationalize how a normal person who isnt a celebrity or leading actor, knows how problematic these people are. Why would an acting gig make you think what the general consensus already is? Are you so uninformed and ignorant about things around us?
I think you may be overestimating the general consensus. You’re on a platform where Altman is a frequent subject of criticism. The average person doesn’t even know the formula for quartz.
