The cages, called “calming areas,” were used for detainees to “reflect on their behavior choices, manage their emotions, reduce stress and practice self-directed behavior,” according to the inspector general’s report.
the report says that “the use of such restrictive spaces is highly unconventional and does not align with standards for humane treatment.”
So the Homeland Security Inspector General has officially stated that the detention facility used inhumane punishments on detainees. I mean, if the punishments were not humane then they were, by definition inhumane. Or to phrase it another way, cruel. A synonym for “unconventional” is unusual. So the Homeland Security IG has stated in an official report that cruel and unusual punishments were used against detainees.
That is a clear violation of the 8th Amendment to the Constitution which states “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.”
I wonder what will come of this? Oh, who am I kidding? If anything happens, it’ll be that the person who wrote the report will spend a couple weeks in one of those cages as a cruel and unusual punishment for stepping on Trump’s toes.
I’ve wondered what we’ll get DeSantis on, and this could be it. It would be fun to put him on prison for a a decade or so on Mini-Hitler charges.
They’ll go nicely with the Theft in Office charges he’s going to catch for laundering government funds through his wife’s charity.
The author of that report needs to be in jail and if they actually have a license, boarded, and never allowed to practice again. Ever. In fact, launch them into the sun with the rest of the assholes that ran or enabled this place.
And yet it will barely move the needle about how Americans feel about Trump and his administration. The frog has been fully boiled in the pot at this point.
Just my experience here but no one I’ve encountered is talking good about Trump, they are bitching about food prices, gas/diesel prices, healthcare, housing. There is a LOT of animosity brewing, finally, thankfully. My take is that mid November things are going to get really hot, really fast. Either they hold elections, get absolutely destroyed, and try to maintain power anyway, or they block elections and never have them. Either way, people will be slapped in the face with the fact that they no longer live in a functional democracy, and that those in power have zero regard for the lives of the American people or anyone else in the world, save themselves and their ilk. Maybe that sounds far fetched, but not from where I’m sitting, or from what people are saying to me. Stock up on shelf stable foods, because we are in for some really hard times.
