Will A.I. wipe out humanity in 10 years, 20 years — or never? I don’t know. You don’t know. But I don’t want to wait to find out.
Call me a raging conservative, but I don’t want to see a dangerous technology continue to evolve rapidly when the owners of that technology acknowledge they can’t control it and they don’t know where it’s going.
For the sake of all humanity, the United States and China must reach an agreement to stop dangerous A.I. development.

Bernie is playing right into the AI companies’ hands. Everyone knows (including the AI vendors) “superintelligence” isn’t coming with LLM technology. They’ve got Bernie fighting against imaginary monsters, while the companies devastate the environment and ruin the economy today.
While I completely agree with you, I think we should give him a break on this one. The man’s 85 after all.
Bernie Sanders has apparently lost the plot completely. Whoever is advising him must be an industry plant. This criti-hype is really counterproductive to reigning in these companies.

LLMs are large language models, so you’re excluding image and video models with this term
The change that made LLMs more effective than older approaches was the transformer model, and extended to transducers/encoders+transformers for general, non language based models. But I doubt anyone is going to call current ‘AI’ tech transformer models, maybe if it’s shortened to TMs.
There was ai used as the concept for machines that can think and reason as well as humans. I think around when marketers got people to accept splitting ai and AGI for general Intel and ai was left with whatever was left I guess reduced the scope of the meaning that continued to today’s common use of ai for non thinking, non rational models and a bit of a vacuum for the original usage.
Maybe start by doing something about all the crimes the AI companies admitted to allowing after they plugged their text generators into a computer terminal.
They could hook a nuclear missile silo computer up to a hamster wheel, and leave a hamster nearby. That would also have a pretty high chance of ending the world.
Don’t worry, no superintelligence exists in america…
