I thought tofu was mildly problematic on account of the water usage, compared to other vegetarian protein sources?

Any plant-based food is going to come out massively ahead compared to any animal product. Even their worst case production is still better than the best case animal product production

Insects might stand a chance, but this is just speculation. And only if (as you say) you pick bad/worst case productions like, I don’t know, maybe almonds or avocados?

Totally on board with most of what your saying here and also with humanely treating animals/giving them rights, but bugs? I just can’t get on board with them having rights. Unlimited genocide on mosquitoes. Not that I want to eat them. I just want them gone.

Rights aren’t to give but to acknowledge. The same video goes into insect sentience in the later part. Mosquitoes do literally harm us, so it’s fair to want to protect yourself from them. But “genocide”…? Wtf. The analog to “unlimited genocide on the first world” here would be: “unlimited genocide on humans,” the oppressors.

Also genocide =/= extinction. There is nothing inherently bad about extinction or depopulation, you’re right on that. But genocide, is not right. I’m imagining the worst since you had to dismiss them having rights.

Idk what the worst is but yeah I’d like us to systematically hunt down every mosquito on the planet and render them extinct. Most likely by releasing some into the wild that introduce genes which lead to sterility in a few generations and just keep doing this until they no longer exist.

I’m probably coming from a different perspective. Because I don’t really care if they’re sentient or not. If they have evolved to be a parasitic organism that spreads disease and whatnot through other species I see no problem with simply wiping them from existence. So long as we do it properly and study the impact it will have on the wider ecosystem, and I’ve seen studies that say their extinction wouldn’t have a very big impact. Those might be wrong though. I’d want us to make absolutely sure before actually doing it.

Grass fed beef is better in some ways than a crop where they apply fertilizers that run off and create algae blooms and nitrate pollutions, and where the strains of the soy in question are GE to take more pesticides.

Pesticides are killing a lot more than we think, a major, if not the major, factor in 90 percent of the insect life on earth disappearing over the last 3 decades.

Remember in the 90’s? A summer drive at night would see so many bug splatters on your vehicle you might have to use the windshield washer fluid. Now? Only a few. Something is seriously wrong here.

Soy, of which tofu is made, is majorly problematic in pesticide usage. It’s one of the crops most genetically engineered to take higher pesticides.

Then you have the deforestation of the amazon concerns as well, to plant soy and raise cattle primarily.

I’m thinking someone might have served you literal turds and called it tofu because your reaction seems extreme for something that at worst can be described as a little bland if you’re bad at cooking.

It’s crazy that you have a problem with eating a bean concoction but not the body parts of a corpse.

How would you take a bet and involuntarily follow it through? Or was the bet supposed to be for the person cooking/feeding the tofu?
