Values guide, but being jaded and flexible with your values is essential to survival.

I think why you feel it’s everyone pushing you to pick a side is actually people telling you to move beyond the bubble of your “values” and recognize that life is far messier and that you might need to adapt your thinking to deal with those unfortunate realities.
