  • The OP is literally this:

I hate when websites use the terms “Item arrives before Mother’s/Father’s Day”.

Makes me want to cry, thinking about the alternate timeline where I have a normal life and no depression/anxiety.

What about “I hate when websites use the terms” and “Makes me want to cry” tells you that OP wants websites to advertise with mother’s day/father’s day?

And what about “Websites shouldn’t use the term for marketing/websites should allow you to opt out” tells you that I said people (and not only companies) shouldn’t use these terms?

Again, please read what was written, don’t invent arguments and statements. There’s no glory in fighting windmills, no matter how often you claim they were actually giants.

  • I tried it on a few OLED smartphones too, couldn’t see a difference.

I tried it with some HDR demo videos, so I expected that these would show off the difference especially well, but I couldn’t see the difference at all.

I’ll try it again with clouds and teals, but I don’t have a huge affinity for distinguishing minute colour differences in general (I’m not colour blind or anything, but it’s hard for me to differentiate between very similar colours), so that might play into it.

  • Yes, my CPU is an AMD Ryzen 7 7435HS which doesn’t have an iGPU. My Nvidia 4070 is the only GPU present on my system.

My GPU driver version is 570.153.02, which is the currently newest production version. When installing it, I used this guide: https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/NVIDIA

I tried Wine-GE-Proton8-26, GE-Proton-latest, Proton Experimental and Proton 9 (Beta). I tried each of these options with Esync and Fsync enabled and disabled and every combination of these two options.

    I tried enabling/disabling VKD3D and DXVK-NVAPI.

And of course I tried rebooting.

I found quite a few people with similar issues online, but never with a fix that actually works. Most of the people with the same issues don’t get any replies at all, and if they do it’s some condescending posts from people who lucked out and don’t have the same issue and think that that makes them better people or something.

(For context, I am a software developer, I programmed for embedded Linux devices for 12 years now. I used Linux as my work OS for the last 7 years until I changed jobs half a year ago and my new company mandates Windows and now I have to deal with WSL. I use Linux as my main private OS for the last 3 years. I compiled kernels for embedded devices quite a few times. It’s fair to say that I do have a little bit of experience when it comes to troubleshooting Linux issues, and I’ve gone through a lot of troubleshooting.)

  • I so wish that was the case.

Half the games I tried on Heroic don’t run and most of them run at <5 FPS even though I own a 4070 and the games I try to run are e.g. Bioshock. Number 1. The original, non-remastered one.

And stuff like Dawn of War crashes once I start the game, same as Bioshock 2, Neverwinter Nights and quite a few other older titles.

And even games that generally work fine (like Shadow of Mordor) sometimes randomly decide to run at 2 FPS.

If anyone has advice about what could cause that, I’d be grateful.

I’m on Fedora 41, running newest proprietary Nvidia drivers.

  • The ability to wake up the laptop from sleep.

Damn, do I regret going with Fedora. Anything newer than kernel 6.10 (which I salvaged from Fedora 39) and my laptop doesn’t wake up from sleep anymore.

But changing distros is a hassle and idiot me went with a single partition for system and data, so migrating to another distro requires me to actually backup everything, so I haven’t done it yet.

  • Tbh, I haven’t done time, but that’s still me.

I upgraded from an old laptop to a 4070. I tried HDR and I don’t see a difference at all. I turned off all the lights, closed the blinds and turned the (hdr compatible, I checked) screen to max brightness. I don’t see a difference with HDR turned on or off.

Next I tried path tracing. I could see a difference, but honestly, not much at all. Not nearly enough to warrant reduced FPS and certainly not enough to turn down other graphics settings to keep the FPS.

To me, both are just buzzwords to get people to fork over more money.
