I think hexbear has that rep because we are generally much more crass towards our targets of derision, and we don’t force the issue of civility

We were/are also openly hostile towards some lemmy instances which had mods with Nazi adjacent views, as well as ‘inclusive’ spaces which were not inclusive; it’s also exacerbated by much of lemmy being redditors who just wanted to ‘feel special’ for leaving reddit.
