Because they were stupid in ever removing the “HBO” brand. The HBO brand is associated with quality. Sure maybe it’s too “prestige” and scared off a few people, but you’ve weakened the brand by just calling it Max.

Plus, the rebranding failed anyway. No one calls it Max, it’s just HBO or HBO Max (which only stuck because of the confusing and inconsistent HBO Go and HBO Now branding).

The sooner David Zaslav is fired the better.

I remember hearing they dropped HBO from the name because HBO is associated with more adult oriented content and they wanted to to show they have more than that. But since the name change they’ve been dropping Cartoon Network shows every time you turn around.

I think they dropped it to not taint the HBO brand with the eventual reality crap they’re going to add on their catalog.

Meanwhile offloading high-end series like WestWorld to Hulu or ad-supported streamers, all not available in my country. HBO, why again?

Sadly, No. They cancelled (the legendary) F Boy Island after only two glorious seasons and cut back on reality content. I don’t think they have a plan, they’re just marketing people hoping to brand their way out of this mess

It was a horrible rebrand, on par with twitter to X. It did not need a rebrand, no one thought it did, and like everyone I knew subscribed to it.

What I heard was that HBO meant premium but they wanted to throw other ATT slip on there so they decided to rebrand.

I think marketing was bored and wanted to justify their existence

The should focus on content not a logo, I unsubbed recently, couldn’t justify paying for something I barely watch, they used to make quality shows under HBO, the wire, Oz and band of brothers.
