Bros hotswapped a nuclear reactor
Honestly if this can be independently verified, they’re close to production. Due to the caustic nature of the heated liquid salt (think salt water on the planet Mercury), plumbing will need to be replaced on a regular cadence. Being able to do that with a secondary or tertiary loop while producing power is a necessary function for practical use.
I really wish nuclear proliferation didn’t fuck the pooch and we pursued thorium salts in the 50s-70s, instead of an olive leaf program to produce warheads.
@Amoxtli Isn’t online refuelling what we do all the time with our CANDU fleet in Ontario;?
I wonder if they solved the corrosion problem or just said “fuck it, we’ll deal with it later”.
It is China, so I expect the second option with saying they solved it without explaining how.
Congrats for China, there is value and merit for being the first at the cost of quality and safety(See Tesla).
“Fuck it we’ll just wing it” certainly sounds like the China I’ve experienced. It’s their great strength compared to us in Europe, hand and feet tied with rules and regulations. Of course it may or may not be a catastrophe in the making. Only time will tell.
@Amoxtli I don’t get these headlines. This reactor has been running for a few years now. The newsworthy bit is that they refueled it.
Respect China.
Also, there’s a lot to be said for totalitarianism.
Also, there’s a lot to be said for totalitarianism.
Not much of it positive though.
Ok.
A good thing : less advertising
A bad thing : less free speech
You?
Good thing: complete and total efficiency in scientific projects that benefit the state. (Really had to reach for one.)
Bad thing: death camps
China has deathcamps but totalitarianism does not imply deathcamps.
Good : no control over life’s necessities by profit seeking entities.
totalitarianism does not imply deathcamps.
Death camps are necessary for totalitarian states. It’s baked into the system. I suggest reading that article or browsing through the sources here.

You’re either unaware of the history of totalitarian states, or you’re arguing in bad faith. Either way I don’t see any benefit for either of us to continue this thread.
Edit: oh… You’re just a shitposting troll. https://sh.itjust.works/post/36481322/18145723
Less advertising? Have you been to China?
That’s probably the western corruption at work.
