I think any sane world, someone would have stepped in a decade ago as an advocate, and gotten them the combination of mental health care and accountability explained to them in compassionate terms they could understand. There has never needed to be a fucking wiki dedicated to this person.
Early Sonichu is fascinating and compelling ad outsider art. Daniel Johnston famously had a breakdown and was protected from the world after getting famous. The world needs to react to weirdos with a little more kindness.
Y’all also have to remember that KiwiFarms started as a Chris-Chan harassment forum. Kiwifarms is so fucked up that cloudflare won’t even host them. There’s something about staring into the void long enough…
The online interest was purely “freak-show” type entertainment. No one had any interest in helping them.
I have much more compassion for Chris-Chan than for anyone who pointed and laughed. I agree with you, if someone was there to help, none of this would have happened.
I kind of remember she was offered therapy at one point and her parents stepped in and shut that down? Last I looked into her was when her father had died, and it seemed like that would be a good change. But now I’ve read an article about her arrest a few years ago, and I can’t believe the judge didn’t order an evaluation given what Chan reportedly said at her hearings.
Seems like people are still treating her like a freak :(
What happened to Chris-Chan is absolutely disgusting. And I don’t know why anyone would want to criticize her now, given how much past bullying and harassment she received. Do you really want to be with the 4chan and KiwiFarms crowd?
I don’t know enough about opinions on the matter to do anything but upvote for a solid post.
Only thing I even know about it is the name and that fuckery was going on. It’s not the kind of drama I tend to be entertained by specifically because the fuckery that would get discussed in passing that I’d scroll past was usually really really ugly fuckery, and that’s bullshit, period.
So scanning the screen shots you provided is enough to make me glad I didn’t ever pay attention to it. I’d have been furious
It’s also, as you noted, a condemnation of internet culture.
Chris-Chan was clearly disabled and mentally ill, and had a whole subculture of people devoted to increasing his suffering who spent significant effort on hurting him as much as possible. The whole thing is fucked, and I think people’s mercilessness to him had a lot to do with causing the final tragic ending to the whole saga including causing innocent people around him to suffer.
I think the whole “could have chris chan been prevented” is a question that should be studied
I’m so pleased to see this isn’t actually an unpopular opinion.
I was a toxic little shit who loved reading Chris Chan drama, and I’m utterly ashamed. They were just a weird person who deserved the right to do weird things in relative privacy.
I don’t see the healthcare angle of things tbh. Chris had an adequate of intervention in their youth but it was deflected by their parents. There’s not much you can do to treat a high-functioning autistic when Mom and Dad say “no.”
I’d argue it’s a condemnation of “groupthink” more than anything, with entire websites set up to torment them because everyone involved thought everyone else involved thought it was funny and not at all morally reprehensible.
See - your first paragraph I think betrays a problem with the American health care system - that “parents rights” extends to denying care. Christian Scientist kids should not be left to painfully die of preventable disease, and parents of developmentally delayed children who do not get them appropriate intervention should probably face some sort of child welfare investigation and consequences (in a post RFK/return to sanity world where the interventions are ethical and not shit like ABA).
The US “troubled teen” industry is another symptom of this rot.
As well as JW kids and blood transfusions
Chris graduated high school, graduated community college, had a fine social life in their youth, designed websites, wrote poetry, etc., etc. There was never any reason for intervention past a few counseling sessions that he did receive.
This not normal.
Imagine a world where you can say any name you want and people know who the hell you’re talking about.
From context I’m guessing this is a streamer that a bunch of people have an unhealthy parasocial relationship with. I will never know, because I don’t typically look at replies.
You’re fascinating. Do you reply to every post you don’t know or understand to declare you have nothing to add?
The people need to know
I will never know, because I don’t typically look at replies.
So why bother posting such cynical shit?
For the other readers who may care, He was nothing like a streamer or internet personality as you assume. They were obsessed with sonic and shared their fanfiction comics online, were mocked ruthlessly and their mental health prevented them from dealing with it in a healthy way. They went full deep-end.
I say he but I think they transitioned and transitioned back? Can’t remember.
Transitioned, prefers she nowadays but he is okay for past events.
The iffy iffy thing is that some of the manipulative stuff and breaks from reality make the “which pronoun” debate difficult. Chris Chan is not in her right mind. There’s evidence in the comics of a group of trolls called the “Idea Guys” that were pressuring her into doing and acting in ways that were making her uncomfortable. She claims to be an inter dimensional goddess ready to merge fictional realities (the smoking gun for the “Idea Guys” is the inclusion of like Hyperspace Neptune(?) and a couple of other series Chris Chan never had interest in.)
At some point some sort of court order or adult protective service is necessary. When someone starts calling themselves a “CPU Goddess” and “Jesus Christ Chan Sonichu Prime” it’s less “kick the autistic” and more “wow the internet bullied a kind of shitty guy into insanity.”

You’re taking extra time out of your day to let everyone know that you refuse to learn, even when learning is quicker.
I’m not googling it because based on this thread, this chris chan person sounds like a disaster, and I don’t want google thinking this is one of my interests.
Now you have spent 453 characters. Are you really still using Google? Dude, they’re lame now, everyone’s talking about it.
To be clear, I’m not the person you were initially responding to, I was just offering a reason why someone might not want to do a search on chris chan.
And yeah I still use google, I’m middle-aged and lame, it’ll happen to you too ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This is incorrect
I’ve only briefly heard mention of this Chris-Chan, and it tended to be in the negative like he was another Jake Paul type person.
This is fucked up. And even more fucked up that somehow the victim is the one who gets shit talked.
What the FUCK man, to have this much motivation for something like this reads to me like a serial killer mentality
It’s so fucked up. Chris Chan believed this shit was happening. Genuinely believes that they are talking to Jesus over discord, and that their wife is being tortured. These conversations would end with things like Chris Chan recording videos confessing to wanting to sexually abuse their mother or sending money or these people. (Magi Chan is also supposed to be Chris’s husband. This polyamorous pedophilic marriage is also the idea of these individuals.)
Every single drama-slop youtuber, that exclusively covers the drama of… other unhinged youtubers, lolcows… basically all of them are vindictive, hypocritical bullies who have just found a way to bully people that is socially acceptable and makes them money.
… And usually within a year, maximum two years, of getting upwards of roughly 10k subs… they almost always become lolcows themselves.
I think capitalism has a way of bribing people to make them into ridiculous caricatures of themselves, because anything authentic would be a threat to the powers that be. I can’t even rightly articulate what I’m trying to say, but the type of content that makes it big on YouTube, the way that people in TV commercials who are in the same role the viewer’s meant to occupy are presented as stupidly endearing with all these flaws on display, the way that even wildly popular content starts to get downplayed once it comes across as “political” or “overserious” or something like that. It’s all of a piece. If anyone with money is making media, it gets set up to send a message that at the end of the day needs to include “You, the viewer, are powerless and kind of stupid, make sure you stay in your role.”
Once, it was conspciuous consumption (my personality IS what i consume, purchase, own…) along with the ‘keeping up with the joneses’ effect of feeling compelled to portray any visible signs of wealth as a sign of success… and the warping of your own personality into a caricature was more or less relegated to TV/Muisc/Movie celebrities, high profile PR people… people whose job it was to be the living embodiment of a brand.
KPop idols are that turned up to 11, and now VTubers signed with agencies basically follow the same model.
But uh… the problem is ironically the democratization of… not real ‘celebrity’, but influencer culture, being a brand ambassador, livestreaming, podcasting… OnlyFans…
Everyone is now presented with a very low cost of entry way of becoming a micro celeb.
So… either you remain authentic, and maybe get a small fan base… or you play into the algorithm, and become a cariacature of yourself, and/or outright grifter/scam artist… and yeah, better chance of making serious money, but you lose your morals/personality/soul in the process.
I was born before the internet age began, and I’ve seen these just unbelievable social changes occur in just over 20 years.
Now we’re at the point where 2/3 of Americans can’t survive missing one pay check, somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 of people are buying groceries on some kind of credit…
Oh well, I guess.
