Post the names of youtubers and other internet microcelebs you hate with a burning passion based on vibes alone. I am aware that youtubers are an inherently reactionary group of organisms [1], but some suck at statistically significant levels.

CGPGrey is at the very least flirting with “rationalism” and might be the smuggest man in existence His content isn’t offensive, he doesn’t hurt anyone, and he’s not actively a bad guy in any meaningful way that I know of. But you asked for youtubers we dislike for their vibes, so that’s my answer.

He actively spreads misinformation, as most of his videos are based on a single source, and he never actually examines how legit the source is. His stuff always “makes sense” and sounds well thought out, but it actively makes its audience dumber, while think they are learning something.

His worst offender is his Americapox videos, in which he literally says Native Americans “are at the bottom of the (video game) tech tree.” because their native animals were too hard to domesticate. Treating development of cultures and technology as a linear video game style progression is bad enough, but the source for his pair of videos is “Guns Germs and Steel” a notorious pop-history book that has recieved a lot of negative criticism from historians for its inaccurate and infantilising depictions of native American civilisations, amongst other things, painting the conquest of the Americas as an “us or them” style thing, portraying it as “inevitable” and making absurd and insulting claims about native American groups, like the Inca being too stupid to know what an ambush was, because they didn’t have horses.

And when the innacuracies and downright racism of his source was called out, CGPGrey doubled down, instead of admitting fault, first he did the standard youtuber tantrum of “if you don’t like it, make your own video/I have more subscribers than you which means I’m right” sort of thing, and then when that didn’t work, he declared his videos were a “joke” and he was just trolling historians with them.

Dude claims to be an intellectual, but can’t ever admit the possibility that he is wrong or did poor research, in turn I think that means we can’t really trust anything he produces. It’s the “guy with a vaguely British accent says a thing with authority, so it must be intelligent and correct.” sort of content.

I was mostly ambivalent towards him until the america pox video, but that definitely turned me off since I had at least two history professors spend lectures talking about how bad guns germs and steel was as a book and threatened to kick out anyone who used it as a source for their classes.

I also briefly listened to his podcast and as smug as he comes off from YouTube, it is controlled compared to his actual real life bullshit. Listen to him decry people who keep mementos of things from their lives and shame his wife for wanting to put pictures of things she likes. This utilitarian only wants things in his life that he actually uses, and I’d be shocked if he hasn’t been divorced at this point for his avoidance of all connections to emotions. He also shilled tesla cars alot, weird he didn’t do any due diligence on Elon and just wanted a cool computer car regardless of who was making it.

Also he would constantly complain that people are too hard him so he takes longer to verify his content is accurate but then his video is always just one source as mentioned and he’s just summarized it. Why did that take 8 months of effort? I hate him as well.
